Have you ever just looked at something and thought ‘this really annoys me’? I opened my blog this morning and I could not stand my layout. I decided to change themes. So far, I do like it. I especially like the background color; I think it is a lot easier on the eyes. What do you guys think?

I first attempted freehand wings. I created a Monarch butterfly-inspired marble base but the wings looked really wonky on my short nails. I remembered the Pueen Cosmetics decals but had spent so much time on this first try, I felt too discouraged to re-do it.  Now, a few days later, I repeated the ziploc marble method and applied the decals on top.

I hope you like it!

Butterflies on Marbled Base | The Rite of AgingI started with a base of Color Club Wham! Pow!

I added a few drops of OPI Red Lights Ahead…Where?, Serum No. 5 Fallen, and CoverGirl Cosmetics Glosstinis Inferno before I lightly placed a ziploc bag on top to blend them together.

The decals are from Pueen Cosmetics.

Dotticure Nail Art for NAIL: 1980s

I was not sure how to approach this week’s prompt as I was born at the end of 1980’s. I decided to stick with pop culture references. Andy Warhol’s popularity was technically during the 60’s but I took inspiration from a 1981 piece he made of Madonna.

There is no way I was going to paint this on my fingertips so I decided to go with a RA-friendly asymmetrical dotticure instead. I hope you like it!

Can we take a moment to talk about how GLOWING this neon pink is? It is probably one of my favorite pinks and the bottle is almost empty. I tried to brighten the photo a little for skin tone purposes but it washed out the pink!

Neon Bright Dotticure | The Rite of AgingI used Color Club Warhol as my base. I did not realize the coincidence until just now writing this post!

I dotted with Zoya Pippa.

Waterfall Nail Art for NAIL – April Showers

I brushed Affie for today’s Cherry Blossom festivities. Unfortunately, as a result my wrists and fingers swelled and flared up. I sorely (heh, see what I did there?) wanted to freehand water droplets but I just did not have the dexterity or practice for it. I settled for the waterfall technique as it was very RA-friendly and had the prompt right in the name (kinda)!

I should waterfall more often. The technique is easy, simple, fast and the final result always looks like it takes more time than it actually does! I hope you like it too!

April Showers Waterfall Nail Art | The Rite of AgingI used Picture Polish Serenity and Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Hunger Flames as my bases.

I sealed both colors with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel top coat. This is the first time using this top coat and have no idea what to expect.

I detailed with detail brushes, Picture Polish Serenity, Revlon Parfumerie Fresh Linen and Zoya Dream. I sealed the design Seche Vite.

Dotticure Nail Art for NAIL – Easter

I tried a couple of different ideas for the NAIL Easter prompt but they didn’t turn out as well as I wanted. I really liked my recent dotticures as I finally figured out the best way to do them. Similar to the blobbicure I did not wait for the base polish to completely dry. As long as I did not use a lot of polish for the dots, they turned out completely circular! Yay!

I hope you like it!

Easter Dotticure Nail Art | The Rite of AgingI started with 2 coats of Zoya Pippa as my base.

I used a variety of dotting tools, Milani Power Periwinkle, Color Club Twiggie and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Petal Pusher. I also used a Sally Hansen pink nail art pen for the smallest dots.

Glitter Nail Art for NAIL – Gold

I am slowly catching up with the linkups I participate in! I missed out on the gold prompt from a couple of weeks ago but since I had a few gold polishes I neglect otherwise I wanted to jump in, even if my submission was really, really late!

I feel bad for my textured polishes. I only ever use them for challenge prompts. I love other 3D nail art (cough, sugar-spun, cough) but I can’t handle good old textured polishes. I guess there is something about the type of texture? Maybe it is too gritty.

I could go on and on about my quirks but let’s get on with the nail art! I like how this came out: simple, fast and RA-friendly…Perfect during this time of stress and fatigue!

But what about you…Do you have any of these eccentricities? Do you like ketchup but not tomatoes? Comment below!

Gold Glitter Nail Art | The Rite of AgingI used Julie G Gift of Gold as a base on my middle and ring finger. I used to coats of Barry M Mustard on the index and pinky finger.

I used a makeup sponge and KBShimmer Sand in My Stocking on the tips.

Due to some personal stuff going on I didn’t have the time nor was I in the mood to paint my nails. But, I knew no matter how long I went without painting my nails I had to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Green is my favorite nail polish color after all!!

It has been a while since I participated in the NAIL linkup. I wanted to but wasn’t feeling particularly inspired (I think mostly due to stress) so I am glad I was able to sneak one in before the month’s end!

But, as you guys remember neons spook my camera. I am completely thrilled that I was able to capture it even if my skin tone took a beating in the photo. I hope you forgive me!

St. Patrick's Neon Watermarble | The Rite of Aging

I started with a thin coat of American Apparel Neon Green as my base.

I marbled with Barry M Matte Cancun and American Apparel Neon Green.

Plastic Bag Marble Nail Art for NAIL and Red Coat Tuesdays

It is funny how inspiration strikes. The last February NAIL prompt was for our least favorite polish. The newest Milani white (Spotlight White) and butter London nude (Tea with the Queen) both made the short list but I could not think of a good nail art with them!…and then it hit me…my Wet n Wild red. I’ve mentioned I don’t like this polish: formula, brush and all…but, for whatever reason, it did not make my original list.

So, why use it? There is a group of bloggers who take part in Red Coat Tuesdays in honor of Pretty Little Liars. I always wanted to take part but never actually created a manicure for the linkup. I am obsessed with this show but even though I love it I have serious issues concerning it. There is too much going on: too many characters, too many plot lines. I tune in every week but this season is seriously lacking. I lean towards colder side of lukewarm because each episode feels like a filler biding its time until the finale.

As excited I am the show was green-lighted for a seventh season (even before this past season aired) I honestly don’t know what else they can do. They are just dragging out everything and it’s getting boring. They just need to tell us who A is, who is torturing the girls, and WHY? I don’t think they ever told us.

Why did they randomly stop thinking Ezra was “A”? (I still think he is just because being A is a very expensive habit and he is the only one who has access to the funds).

Anyways, on to the nail art! I decided to do something simple, RA-friendly and abstract. This is my first attempt at plastic bag marbling. There are a couple of ways to do it, either apply the dots directly to the nail or marble on the bag and transfer the design.

I decided to try the latter. I continued to splotch and mash until I was happy with the final design. I hope you like it!
