31DC2013 Day 26: Inspired by a Pattern

I scanned magazine after magazine, my closet, my house, for a pattern that I liked enough to re-create on my nails. I did not have any attachment to anything.

…Until I came across a dress from Clover Canyon. This is not a unique print but it is my favorite color combination, which is the main reason I was drawn to it.

Image

I used two coats of Urban Outfitters “Blue Velvet” as my base and Color Club “Wham! Pow!” for the detailing.

I am starting to realize how difficult nail art is on small nails!

I love how my thumb came out so I decided to add a rare picture of it.

Coco Chanel has to be my favorite designer ever. And my Limited Edition Fall 2012 sunglasses are my most prized possession.

Image

I instantly fell in love with these sunglasses when I saw them in the print ad.

Image

I put them on my “lust-haves” list knowing that I would have to find something similar.

It was pure luck and some really awesome out-of-world mojo that helped me land these sunglasses in early Summer 2013!!!

Image

Since the frame of the glasses are clear I used butter London “Tea with the Queen” as my base.

For the detailing I used the water-coloring technique to re-create the sheer see-through quality as seen on the glasses.

I used the following polishes:

  • Color Club “Wham! Pow!” (orange), “Poptastic” (pink)
  • Zoya “Suvi” (green), “Gwin” (green), “Reece” (pink)

And no Chanel-inspired manicure would be complete without a signature pearl!

31DC2013 Day 24: Inspired by…a Book

Since I am such a Middle Earth nerd I decided to continue with the concept and go with the Hobbit.

The Smaug sketch at the beginning of the book is my favorite drawing from the entire series. I redrew it on my binders, notebooks, everything!

Inspired by…a Book

I am seriously digging the red glint in Smaug’s eyes as he watches over his hoard.

For this manicure I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear “White On”. I only needed one coat!

For the detailing I used Wet n Wild “Black Creme”butter London “Knees Up”, and Zoya “Goldie”.

31DC2013 Day 23: Inspired by a Movie/Nail Art: The Power of Good Book

So this manicure is not totally unique but I have always wanted to try it!!

My favorite book, favorite movie, favorite franchise…I could keep going…is Lord of the Rings. I’m a fanatic. Obsessive is probably a better word.

Very simple but a little time-consuming and so so cool!

I am also using this as my nail art for a prior post. Click on the picture to view it.

I took this picture in a yellow reading light to give it that “from the fire” glow.

I also chose not to apply top coat to give it a more raw feel. I don’t know though, it might just make it look sloppy!

Inspired by a Movie

I used Zoya “Goldie” for the base and Milani “Black Swift” for the script.

The script is only on my right hand because there was no way I could achieve this with my non-dominant hand!

31DC2013 Day 22: Inspired by a Song (…Or Musical)

Oh boy. I had some really bad nausea last night so I took an anti-nausea pill. Unfortunately, I totally forgot that it makes me really drowsy, very quickly.

Halfway through the manicure, I nearly fell asleep and I barely finished; let alone posted it online.

I hope you enjoy it nevertheless!

One of my all time favorite musicals is Rent. I combed through the entire musical trying to find just one song that I could mash into a manicure but it was way too hard so I decided to go with the entire musical.

The last few days were rough for me. I am not dealing with a flare but somebody told me something that hit me hard.

I spiraled pretty badly and I am trying to regain my composure. It took all of my energy to continue with the 31 day nail challenge because I no longer feel motivated to do anything.

Someone from work told me that nobody wants to rock-climb or hang out with me anymore because they all think that they have to make special allowances for the arthritis. I thought I had made it clear that I do not need any help and if I do, I will ask for it. I have become a lot more creative to overcome any disabilities. I very rarely ask for help and never use the RA as an excuse to not complete a work task.

Initially, I did not think too much of it. I am sure it came out in a different way than was meant, but recently I notice it is true.

People no longer invite me on climbing trips, yet still talk about them in front of me. Everyone makes excuses to not climb with me indoors. People always tell me the classic “I am busy for the next few weeks” whenever I reach out to hang out.

I feel like a fool. There are so many times that I can reach out before I look like an idiot.

The only times I manage to socialize with my co-workers is when I just push my presence on them and invite myself. That is not good any way around. If they wanted me to join, they would ask. I mean, I am standing right there.

I have not climbed in almost three weeks and I have no plans to climb in the future.

I am still very wary of who I tell about my disease. No more than 20 people know.  I would not have told them at work but each employee has to pass a drug test.  I had to tell them about my condition.

What I realized is I became sloppy about what I say.

I was always a closed book. I rarely let people into my life and I rarely talked about my problems.

People act like they cared about my well-being so I divulge more information on my condition.

That is interpreted as: I whine too much and am not trying hard enough to change my situation.

Oh, okay.

Let me just exercise a little more and maybe my joints will get stronger.

Please tell me again how I should just lower my methotrexate dose so that I feel less lethargic and nauseous.

Why can’t I just increase my prednisone dose to 15mg so that I can function?

Why don’t I just take more pain-killers?

Why don’t I try harder to make my condition less controlling?

What symptoms? You seem ok to me…

I am tired of explaining my condition to people who do not care enough to understand. Every time I try, people form even lower opinions of me.

When I closed myself off from people: I worked hard, I spoke when spoken to, my opinions were held in high regard.

I need to go back to that.

31DC2013 Day 21: Inspired by a Color (…Coordinate?)

I wanted to continue with my water-marbling and I saw that I had a ton of great polishes in the pink-red category for an awesome gradient.

Apologies, I just noticed that there is a little more swelling in my fingers than usual. I had to do two manicures today because I will be out all day on Sept. 21st, giving me no time to work on the day’s prompt.

Inspired by a Color: Pinks/Reds

For this marble, I marbled each color separately and layered them. I really love how it came out!

Base:  Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear “White On”

All marbles were done with Orly “Bonder”.

IndexZoya “Reece”, Color Club “Poptastic”

Middle: Zoya “Reece”China Glaze “Caribbean Temptation”Urban Outfitters “Banana Hammock” (I added the yellow because this nail looked a little bald).

RingChina Glaze “Caribbean Temptation”Sephora by OPI “Mr. Right Now”

PinkySephora by OPI “Mr. Right Now”, “Caffeine Fix”

I think it is great how each marble goes in different directions and how each color pops!
