Well, sort of…We only got about 5 inches of snow but the roads were not cleared until the afternoon so I guess it did warrant a snow day!

I’m am super bummed though. I have to make up today’s class by tacking on an extra 30 minutes to the next two…and these lesson plans really only work for an hour, and don’t hold the attention of a typical 5 year old for loner than that. Ugh.

Oh well, what can you do?

I hope you like my snow day manicure!

Waterspotting and Stamping Snow Day | The Rite of AgingI started with 2 coats of Julie G Butterflies & Rosebuds as my base.

I water-spotted with hairspray, Color Club Pucci-licious and Sally Hansen Hunger Flames.

I stamped with butter London Cotton Buds and MoYou London plate Festive – 02.

I have been so lucky the last couple of weeks. It has not rained except at night and while some evenings were frigidly cold, Saachi moved quickly in the elimination department so it didn’t really affect me. Yesterday night it iced and everything froze overnight…but no snow…I like snow…

After yesterday’s watermarble success I sustained my marble high and decided to try the technique again! It came out differently but I am pleased with it. The polishes spread really sheer and looked similar in the water. I honestly just threw caution to the wind when making my designs, heh!

I hope you like it!

Icy Blue Watermarble | The Rite of AgingI started with a messy, sheer coat of Milani Power Periwinkle.

I marbled with Milani Power Periwinkle, Barry M Gelly Chai, and Emily de Molly Candy Coated. These all spread really well together!!

I stamped with butter London Cotton Buds and MoYou London plate 02 from the Festive Collection.

Challenge Your Nail Art: Snowmen

I dreaded today’s prompt a little. Not because I did not like the idea but because I could not freehand to save my life! I remembered I bought holiday water decals from BPS last year. Then I remembered they were a year old and when I last tried them they dried up and smeared with top coat application. Regardless, I proceeded with caution knowing fully well my attempt might end up in failure and I would have to start again.

Thankfully, the water decals worked pretty well. However, it took 5 minutes of soaking in water to detach them from their backing paper. A little bit of a bummer especially when in the end I did not wait long enough for two of them to dry and they smeared. Well, at least my favorite (on the ring finger) did not smear! That snowman is just so ridiculously cute!

I hope you like it! Can you see my subtle gradient?

12daysofxmas - snowmenI started with 3 coats of Zoya Crystal as my base. I could have done two since I completely went over with another color but at the time I still was not sure what colors I was going to use in my gradient.

I used a makeup sponge, butter London Knackered, Zoya Dream and Urban Outfitters Mystic (from cuticle to tip).

I used an assortment of Born Pretty Store water decals and sealed everything with a generous coat of Seche Vite.

Nail Art: Fall Sugar-Spun

It just would not be a complete season without a sugar-spun manicure on this blog, right? Tonight I sat down to do a water marble but I could not get the polishes to spread in the water properly so I resorted to sugar-spinning. Okay, sugar-spinning is never a next resort on this blog but it was not initially what I wanted to do.

I hope you like it!

fall sugar spunI started with three coats of butter London Tea with the Queen as my base. I really should get rid of this polish. Even underneath the sugar spun I absolutely hate how looks. I really do not know why keep using it.

I sugar spun with Milani Dark Coffee, SpaRitual Running with Wolves and Zoya Goldie.

Nail Art: FALL-ing into the Season

I am not going to lie I’m super excited Halloween is over. As you know I’m not the biggest fan of this “holiday” and always feel pretty uninspired when it comes to nail art. Even though it is November, I cannot wait to get started on my December themed nail art. Prepare yourself for snowflakes, snow globes, whimsy and overall good cheer!

Winter is an interesting season for me. It is my favorite time of year but with the RA it is also a very difficult time of year. I choose to focus on the “favorite”.

I am itching to start my holiday nail art but I should pay tribute to Thanksgiving and fall so today I have a simple nonuniform dotticure for you. I hope you like it!

Fall Dotticure | The Rite of AgingI started with two coats of SpaRitual Howl as my base.

I used butter London Tea with the Queen, China Glaze Sun Worshiper, and OPI Pros and Bronze for the detailing.

Halloween Nail Art Challenge – Day Three: Villains

Check the sidebar for more information.

I tried a couple of ideas for today’s manicure. My first was ghosts, but I was not really feeling freehand work. For my second I finally tried Frankenstein patchwork but it looked too crowded. After that bought of freehand, I felt pretty discouraged so I sat down and flipped through my stamping plates. I came across a nocturnal creature and I was suddenly inspired…Vampire Bats! And to top it off, I combined two RA-friendly techniques: splatter and saran-wrap!

So here’s a fun story…sort of…When I worked the morning shift at the animal hospital one of my duties was to walk the dogs in the outside yard. These walks took place at 5 a.m. so I stood outside with the “barkers” to make sure they didn’t bark. One morning while I stood next to this patch of decorative bamboo in the yard, I heard a rustling in the leaves. I thought it was a person or animal but it was coming from the top. I freaked out thinking whatever it was might jump on me, grabbed the dog and ran inside. Later, I was telling this story to one of the receptionists and she told me bats were pretty common in our neck of the woods. She also told me she never walked her dog, at night, in forests or patches of trees and never ever let her dog out by itself. Bats carry rabies!

I love watching bats in captivity but out in the wild!…Nope! Anyways…

I hope you like it!

Halloween Nail Art Challenge - Villians | The Rite of AgingI started with two coats of Zoya Goldie as my base.

I “saran wrapped” with Sephora by OPI 212-Sephora and butter London Scuppered. I sealed the base with a generous coat of Seche Vite.

I “splatter painted” with Wet n Wild I Red Good Book.

I stamped with Bundle Monster plate BM-314 and Konad Special Polish Black.
