Honestly, I was pretty underwhelmed with this year’s anniversary sale. Over the last year Nordstrom’s semi-annual sales (held twice a year) have better discounts on a larger number of items.

On top of everything else, the brands usually on sale were not (read: Under Armour) so I was more than little bummed. I have found that I generally use the Anniversary sale to stock on my favorite Caslon and Halogen brands but then again, they are always on sale.

nordstrom anniversary jully 15I am always on the lookout for basic long sleeve shirts for school. I can never wear nice clothes because they inevitably get ruined! Basics are the best and Caslon makes some nice hardy ones at an affordable price!

I love scarves. I wear them all year round. When I saw this Echo Brushstrokes scarf I immediately fell in love! The only problem is I cannot decide between the Electric Blue or Multi colors!

I love Halogen’s Slub Knit tops. They are form fitting but slouchy and comfortable. And, above all, they last for ages!

I am so glad to see this Michael Kors rain jacket is still on sale. I love the dark blue. The perfect muted pop of color for dreary days! Unfortunately, I really like the red as well!

And, no shopping trip would be complete without a sweatshirt! This turquoise space dye sweater from Caslon is my perfect style and color!

anniversary sale july 15

I will never forget the Ted Baker Dauschund Bauble wallet. I waited too long and it slipped through my fingers. I hold out for another great design from Ted Baker but if you are looking for basic design, good quality sturdy wallets, these are fantastic finds!

The Rebecca Minkoff Mini 5 Zip Crossbody is always on sale at this time of year. I always have my eyes on them but can never decide on the color! I am hoping the neon yellow comes back on sale!

Are you looking to splurge a bit? These adorable star earrings and matching necklace from Sugar Bean are so pretty (and they come in multiple colors as well)!

And, now, for the gut-wrenching splurge: La Mer. I don’t think it’s a secret how much I love the line. My skin absolutely loves the face cream and the eye concentrate is my holy grail eye product!! With two full size products, this kit is well worth the money!

Do any of these items pique your interest? Even though I feel lukewarm towards this year’s overall sales…I have to say some of the beauty gift with purchases are alright! The ones I am especially interested in:

_8074193Estee Lauder always has great gift with purchases and this one is no exception. There are three other “kits” I can choose from. This will be the perfect time to stock up on my go-to serum: Advanced Night Repair!

07-24-15-lamer-cid0724157162-7-adam-b461ea7c-188f-47aa-ab35-a4db0122a20b-fil-file

_6602124And, if I’m going to splurge on that great La Mer set from above I might as well add a little something more in the form of the awesome Lip Balm and get a few travel-friendly samples!

There a lot more gift with purchases, check them out here!

On top of the sales, Ebates is offering 3.0% on Nordstrom online purchases. I recently signed up and am thrilled with the cash backs I’ve received. If I have to make a purchase online it’s nice to get a little something back! If you’re interested in signing up with Ebates please use my referral link in the sidebar (note: I am not an affiliate of the company, this is my personal referral link that every one gets when they sign up!)

Let’s Go Shopping – Beauty at Nordstrom

I did not buy anything over the last few months and went slightly crazy at Nordstrom. There were many products I drooled over but had to lock the buying bug away. All my funds went towards Saachi’s chemotherapy and I did not want to spend on anything extra. Now that she has passed, I have a little wiggle room and wanted to go on a shopping spree (I always crave shopping sprees when I’m sad…)

What makes you feel better when you grieve? Do you shop? What do you buy? Tell me in the comments!

Below are the items I bought and a few others that caught my eye and am still debating! Enjoy!

nordstrom beauty haul - chanelErmergersh. I almost cried. I thought they no longer offered the higher SPF Chanel UV Essential lotion! This stuff is AH-MAZING. The first time I bought this sunscreen the sales rep told me to only use two drops rubbed between my fingers then applied to my face and neck. I don’t actually need more than that amount! The sunscreen only comes in a one-ounce bottle but it lasts me the entire summer. I keep this in my scrub pants pocket for those sunny days when I unexpectedly find myself outside with the dogs. The lotion is very fluid, it is non-greasy and absorbs quickly but, as with any titanium dioxide sunscreen I really wash my face well at the end of the night.

nordstrom beauty haul - mac fix +This facial spray has been on my radar ever since I started watching YouTube beauty videos. Everyone, and I mean, EVERYONE raves about this product. Apparently, this is the ultimate facial spray! It hydrates, blends foundation seamlessly and sets makeup! Take a sample size with you no matter where you go and your face will always be flawless! Those claims would pique anyone’s curiosity, right? I sampled MAC products before and was never too impressed by them but I decided to give them another chance. I am on a facial spray kick right now and there was no better time to try this one! I do not wear enough face makeup to “set” it…so…what am I going to use it for? During the summer I love wearing more vibrant, fun eye looks but they always crease! Apparently, spraying Fix+ on the brush not only helps shadow stay longer, it also mimics applying shadow “wet”. Let’s see if this product lives up to the hype!

nordstrom beauty haul - anrThe Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair (ANR) serum is no surprise. It makes regular appearances on my blog. I am in my twenties, known for obsessive sunscreen use so I do not leaps and bounds differences in my skin after using it. This being said, I notice my skins feels more rough when I skip this step in my routine. I no longer break out as frequently, or am as oily, (especially important during the hotter, more humid months) and my skin just feels better.

nordstrom beauty haul - strobeAh…yet another YT sensation! Everyone gushes this is the best highlighter ever made. I always shied away from this because of a) the name and b) I am very picky about my highlighters. I love the idea of strong highlighter but because of my yellow undertones white highlighters look crazy and let’s face it, with this name, I really don’t want to look like I’m clubbing at 10 o’clock in the morning!  Nordstrom sells the mini-version of the MAC Strobe Cream so why not give it a go!

bb8fb39a46337406e669c65f6c8375f4When the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette came out I fell in head-over-heels love with the shade ‘Blackheart’. I almost bought the entire thing just because of that one shade. One day, I was at MAC counter at Nordstrom and laid eyes on the very similar MAC shade “Beauty Marked”. I considered buying it but I was still on the fence about the UD palette. Of course, it didn’t make sense to shell out 50 some odd dollars for only one shade but it would be cheaper for all 12 than the sole MAC one. I decided to be real with myself. I would never use the other shades in the Naked 3 palette, so now…it’s time for Beauty Marked!

nordstrom beauty haul - raspberry popIf I ever go for a lip product other than balm it has to be a nude gloss. However, I cannot stop gushing over this Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss in Raspberry Pop! As it is, I am a huge fan of the Pure Color Glosses! The consistencies down the line are perfect. They are not overly thick but they are slightly sticky. I barely notice it after they wear for a while. They settles nicely into the lips and do not accentuate dry lines or patches. I own at least three in my stash at all times. That is saying a whole lot since I rarely wear lip products!

Raspberry Pop is not very pigmented. It adds a slight berry tinge but it is like wearing a classy disco ball! I cannot get over the glitter in this. I would not wear it to work but I definitely to weekend brunch! It is just so freaking fun!! It catches the light in a bright, glimmer-y way without yelling “hey, look, the girl smeared her lips with glitter!” I absolutely love it! (Some of my other favorite shades: Blazing Coral and Magnificent Mauve!)

nordstrom beauty haul - warm neutralI am still on the fence about this palette. I love neutral eyeshadows and own way to many of them. But, this would be a great way to try out MAC eyeshadows. And, I do not own any dupes for these colors!…Can you tell which way I am leaning??

_10415190 _10415209If I chicken out on the above palette I can always purchase one of the smaller ones instead. Here’s the problem: I cannot decide between the two (Burgundy Times Nine [top] or Amber Times Nine [bottom])! Since I am new to MAC the logical part of my brain says I should go for the larger palette then come back for the smaller ones. I just cannot get over the burgundy shades, though!! Can I get all three??

Yeah…I completely went off the rails with this haul. I rarely buy this many products in one go. I purchase one expensive item or a couple of cheaper ones…Then I got the email about the 24-piece sample gift with $130 purchase. This was the perfect time to check out some of my “want-to-try” products. There was an extra bonus: add $20 more and receive a FRESH sample set. On further inspection of the gift sets, I realized I was not interested in most of the products. Unfortunately, when I tried to empty my shopping cart of the larger items (i.e., the 15-eyeshadow palette) I added more little items instead! Oops!

What do all these products have in common other than first time tries? I cannot purchase them at Sephora. The store starts their Beauty Insider 15% off sale on April 12th! Logically, of course, I shouldn’t buy a whole lot from either store since I plan to take advantage of both promotions but hey, I can always put myself back on a no-spend regime!

NORMAN ROCKWELL x KIEHL’S

I have really exciting news!! Kiehl’s beauty brand teamed up with the Norman Rockwell Estate to create limited edition holiday sets! Better yet, Kiehl’s will donate 100% of profits to Feeding America!

trimming the tree

I don’t usually care for collaborations because they cater too much to the “hottest” thing at the time but Norman Rockwell is classic and absolutely perfect for this time of year. Sure, you can argue he was the “pop” illustrator of his time but there was something very relatable about his work. During a time of political uncertainty and economic struggle family became even more important. There was a certain fairy tale-like feel to his work that gave people hope. His artworks represented the struggles of the middle class family but there was something very calming about them.

dog and his owner

I saw a Norman Rockwell painting, for the first time, at a Smithsonian museum exhibit. I don’t remember now, for sure, which museum but if I were to take a guess I would say the Newseum when it first opened. I was mesmerized. At my young age I was first drawn to the dogs and their children but as I learned more about the inspiration for his art I realized there was more to the happy exterior.

Now that I have rambled on about nostalgia let us get on to the products!

The picture is also the link.

kiehls x norman rockwell greatest hits

If you are new to the brand this is a great place to start! This set includes many travel size favorites including the concentrate and body lotion! Not to mention, this is one of my favorite paintings!

kiehls x norman rockwell creme de corps

If you’re just interested in one product the best-selling Creme de Corps lotion comes in this limited-edition casing, in three sizes! I think I may get the biggest size so I can re-purpose the bottle later on.

kiehls x norman rockwell set

Another great painting houses the best-selling original scent lip balm and heavy-duty hand cream. The perfect duo for the upcoming winter! Just keep in mind, the lotion is on the greasier side (I would wear it at night) and the lip balm is petroleum-based.

_9782046The “Hydration Essentials” is one I have my eye on as it contains some of Kiehl’s best-selling moisturizers! A cute gift box and sample-size essentials for all your holiday travel needs! I wanted to purchase the lip balm hand salve duo but given this holiday set contains both, plus more I think this is definitely a better value! I also have a thing for travel-sized products. They are so easy and convenient!

_9650886Are you a fan of the heavy duty “Ultimate Strength Hand Salve”? Do you want others to love it too? This trio is a great idea if you want a quick, inexpensive stock-stuffer for your friends & family!

Can you tell I am excited about this? If it was not too apparent…YAY! THIS IS AWESOME….I want to buy them all. Buy all the things. Seriously. I will sleep on it tonight and maybe tomorrow I will feel less spend-y…But I will tell you right now, I am purchasing the body lotion and Hydration Essentials! Don’t forget, Nordstrom currently offers a Kiehl’s gift with purchase as well!

Just like most bloggers, I gush over the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. Almost every department experiences price slashes with a great selection of online and in-store products.

I compiled a collage and list (with links) to the items I have my eyes on. As you probably guessed, I am flaky about purchasing clothes, accessories, skincare, beauty, okay, everything so my shopping cart changes on an hourly basis. I wish I was kidding. I find my mind and mouse wandering back to the website!

A Simple Oil-Combating Skin Trick.

When I was younger I had super oily skin (I broke out all the time and my forehead was a completely different color because of hyper pigmentation). Now I have oily-combination skin. I still get shiny throughout the day and I wake up oily.

Where there are open pores, there is oil. Where there is oil, there are breakouts. So, the best way to eliminate breakouts is treating the source!

I splash my face with cold water. Ice cold water. Two or three times after cleansing. The cold water closes my pores before toner and moisturizer. It minimizes oil production from the start. I do not have to worry about breaking out since there is less oil to fight.

I have noticed a huge difference. I do not reach for the oil blotting sheets as often or wake up with a shiny face. And the best indicator? Fewer breakouts!

Beauty Dry-Brushing: the Healthy Exfoliating Method

25 Friday Apr 2014

Photo ℅ beautyhabit.com

I caved and bought a dry brushing body brush (that’s a mouthful)! Apart from it’s basic exfoliating, the benefits of dry brushing are vast. Beauty dry-brushes promote good circulation, healthier immune function and cellulite removal (I cannot vouch for the latter) as well. I bought the Urban Spa Cellulite Bamboo Brush from beautyhabit.com because after some research I thought it was the best dry brush  for my body. It can hang upside down on a hook, it has bristles on one side and massagers on the other for a two in one whammy.

So what is the best way to dry brush your skin? I start at my feet and slowly brush upwards in circular motions. I do the same thing with my upper limps starting with my palms and brushing in towards my chest.

It makes sense since it pushes circulation towards the heart, the hub of oxygen transport in the body. But, does it truly matter when blood flows in every direction? Of course, I do not want the bad stuff circulating longer, but the process is so quick it does not really matter. Either way, it does not hurt or take longer to brush upwards in circular motions, right?

As an autoimmune patient, I do agree dry-brushing strengthens the immunity. While it may not help me beat an infection, the mild massage stimulates the lymphatic system. My RA makes me less active so I need all the help I can get to keep my body moving, both inside and out. Sure, everything in the body moves at the same speed but as I get older these systems slow down which is not doing me or my condition any favors! Just like a massage helps the lymph nodes empty the “trash”, dry-brushing does the same thing.

I notice I am more alert and awake. I would not say my energy levels are higher but I do feel less foggy. Pain? The big things are still difficult: climbing stairs, lifting pets, cooking dog food, but “sensations” like prickling and tingling are gone.

That being said, the bristles on this specific tool are rough so I have to be careful not to go over the same spot more than twice. I only dry-brush every other day, otherwise, my skin cannot heal fast enough.

I think dry-brushing is a good idea. While it is a more expensive beauty item, I think it a great investment. It revitalizes, rejuvenates and exfoliates. But, if you have sensitive skin, I would steer clear. A massager is your best option. Find a model that does not drag on your skin so as not to irritate it!

Laura Mercier, review, skincare, tangle teezer

Just a few things this month. All of these items I have been using for a couple of months but am still loving them.

DSCF7850_fotor_fotor

Can I just say how much I love the packaging of the Laura Mercier bath products?? They are beautiful and feel so luxurious!

Laura Mercier’s Ambre Vanille Scrub

(USD $50.00 for 12oz) –> found at http://www.lauramercier.com or select Nordstroms stores

Let me start by saying I love my St. Ives Apricot scrub. It is my go-to body scrub…always. I went out in search of a nicer body scrub. I get bored quickly. I exfoliate twice a week and sometimes it feels like a dull chore. One I could employ when I felt low and needed a pick-me up, when I wanted to pamper myself. I heard great things about the Laura Mercier bath line so I wandered over to my local Nordstroms. The second I took a whiff I fell in love.

Honestly, I was surprised. I am very sensitive to gourmand scents so I was wary. Every scent in Laura Mercier’s line is sweet, strong and dessert-like. This scrub is no exception. It smells exactly like a honeyed vanilla pastry. The fragrance wafts through the house. I wash after I scrub to lessen the scent on my skin.

This scrub is dense and ultra-moisturizing. The intensity of the granular pieces make it a powerful physical exfoliant. The cream base is ultra hydrating which makes it unnecessary for me to apply lotion afterwards. This is awesome since I just removed a layer of my skin! Of course, I still apply moisturizer but I like the idea that I do not have to!

Given the product’s texture, I only use a small amount for my entire body. Otherwise it gets too rough for me. One dime sized dollop is enough for my entire upper body while another dip  works for my lower one. The exfoliator comes with a plastic scoop but I never have to use the full amount.

Speaking of which, I do not like putting my fingers in the jar so I really like the scoop. I find it surprising that it is plastic. The jar itself is glass, heavy and looks gorgeous so I would expect higher quality material for all components involved. That being said, the scoop does seem sturdy.

I use this scrub weekly. I purchased this product at the end of January but because of my fragrance sensitivity I had to make sure I did not have a reaction to it.

Take a look at the picture! It looks like I have barely scratched the surface!

Will I re-purchase? YES.

DSCF7851_fotor

As extra pampering, I follow with…

Laura Mercier’s Ambre Vanille Souffle Body Creme

(USD $60.00 for 12oz) –> found at http://www.lauramercier.com and select BlueMercury stores

I loved the scent of the scrub so much I returned to buy the Souffle Body Creme. I was thrilled to find the BlueMercury near my house started selling the full bath & body line. I got to test the soufflé creme, the body butters and hand cream. I decided on the soufflé creme because Wow. This lotion is so wonderful. Its texture is fluffy and lighter than whipped cream. Don’t let the thin consistency fool you, though, this cream packs a powerful hydrating punch.

Let me go over the fragrance first. It is sweeter and spicier than the scrub. While the scent does not fill the house it does stick to my skin. I smell like a dessert for at least two days and I cannot wear my perfume.

I apply this body cream on the days I exfoliate with the scrub to seal in the moisture and scent. The lotion applies smoothly and absorbs quickly and the scent lingers on my clothes. The first time I used it I was a little disappointed. My clothes smelled so strongly I thought the product had rubbed off onto my skin and transferred to my pjs. Well, that was a bummer, I thought! Turned out I was wrong. My skin was still soft and moisturized the next day so I knew it was just a very powerful fragrance.

A very little goes a long way. I have used this weekly for three weeks all over my body and it looks like I have barely touched it.

Will I re-purchase? YES.

DSCF7852_fotor

Last but certainly not least…

Tangle Teezer’s The Original in Mandarin Sweetie

(USD ~$14.00) –> found at http://www.tangleteezer.com or http://www.amazon.com

I purchased this product in February after seeing a quick review on MissHollyBerrie‘s blog. I cannot find the specific video, I think it was in Holly’s February favorites? Anyways, I also have thick curly hair so my hair is prone to breakage. It does not help matters my methotrexate injections make my hair fall out. And let’s face it, the Tangle Teezer is super super cute.

This is a weird little contraption. It is meant to fit in the palm of my hand as I comb through my hair. It de-tangles without pulling and stimulates my scalp. I considered putting this in my February favorites but I had heightened skin sensitivity and I had to put it to the side. The bristles are hard and come in two different lengths. While it did hurt my scalp a little, I preferred the harder, denser bristles. I have such thick, curly unruly hair that softer bristles break and deform quickly. The more solid bristles rake through my hair and de-tangle it properly. However, it is gentle enough to use on wet and dry hair.

This comb/brush hybrid was made for right-handed people. I have to hold it upside down so it does not fit properly. However, it is not uncomfortable. Just an FYI if you are left-handed like me.

I swipe the Tangle Teezer through my hair before I shampoo it and twice a day before I brush it. I also gently run through my hair before I dry it. I want to note though during the first few of using this brush I experienced more  hair fall-out. Unsure whether it was my methotrexate dose (took a break because of antibiotics) or it was because I was growing out my hair (more hair means more shedding, right?) I continued to use it. The hair fall out lessened and I think it was because my scalp got used to the different treatment.

This brush is exactly what I need to grow out my hair. It de-tangles and manage as my hair grows curly again.

Apologies for the slightly nasty picture! I could not get the stray hairs out from the bristles. But hey, that means I am definitely use it!

Will I purchase another one? I may purchase the compact to travel with.

Hehe…it kind of reminds me of a furry caterpillar!
