During this challenge I had to go through my nail polish spreadsheet to look up names and brands but since the beginning I knew I’d use Chanel’s Vibrato for the V prompt.

This blue is just as saturated and bright in real life and it makes me so happy! I was on a strict no-buy when this shade came out in Fall 2015 but I had to break it. I bought this and Fortissimo (both part of the Les Bleu de Chanel collection) and I’m so glad I did. No regrets because Chanel does blue beauty so well!

I hope you like my striping tape and gradient look. I still hate striping tape. Next time, I’m free handing that V or X (whatever you choose to see)!

#AtoZChallenge – U is for Ugly-Pretty Shade

I previously stated I have a soft spot for limited edition Chanel nail polishes so Peridot, from the Fall 2011 collection, is no exception. Yet, I rarely wear it. The duochrome is kind of weird and sits funny against my skin. It is one hell of a color though. It shifts from a burnished gold to a dirty khaki with loads of shimmer thrown in for good measure. It is such an interesting shade but definitely an ugly-pretty one too!

What do you think of it? (I will update the pictures when I get some sun!)

I wrote about my wonderful Chanel sunglasses so of course I had to do a polish related post as well!

It is no secret I L-O-V-E love Chanel polishes. If I could buy them all I would. However, that is highly unrealistic so I purchase the “special” ones. One of my favorites is Taboo from the Spring 2013 collection.

taboo This is a gorgeous deep purple with blue and red shimmer running throughout the polish.

tabooYou can see a hint of the gold shimmer that is so prominent in the bottle but it really only exists there.

The formula is thick but pliable and fully covers in one coat. For good measure I always wear two. It does stain a little but that is expected from such a deep blurple (blue-purple) shade!

We all have something we lust after. We don’t have everything we want. Just by human nature, we don’t. We’re always craving something more. After all, biologically and evolutionarily speaking, that is why the human race is the most elite species. We never settle for what we have. Of course, it does not have to material, it could be an idea or experience.

linda-evangelista2

For me it is material and I am not embarrassed. When it comes to money I am a tightwad…I scrimp and save, own multiple accounts, putting away money for rainy days that may never come. However, I have a soft spot for luxury brands, especially Chanel.

I can’t tell you when my obsession started. Nor can I tell you with what item it started with. Perhaps it was the perfume, the most iconic in the world. If it is was, then I was programed towards Chanel from a young age. My mother wore Chanel No. 5 and now so do I (though, for general wear I prefer Coco Mademoiselle).

chanelfull

In the fall of 2012, as I flipped through one of my magazines I happened across one ad for  gorgeous limited edition (LE) Chanel sunglasses. At the time I was in the market for new sunglasses after mine were stolen in India but none really spoke to me.

These glasses were a beauty but they were limited edition CHANEL sun specs. The possibility of even seeing them in person was a pipe dream and honestly, it never even crossed my mind to own them. I just used them to compare other sunglasses.

chanelcloseup

Now, six months later I still lusted after these glasses and couldn’t find anything remotely similar. I decided there was no harm in calling my local Chanel boutique and inquiring about them. They took the product code and inserted it into their search and found one pair left. In Hawaii. I asked if they could ship them to the store and they said yes but I still was not sold on purchasing them. What if they didn’t fit or weren’t as perfect in person. I said I would call back.

The following day Saachi attacked Affie and ripped her lower mandible off her face which resulted in emergency dental surgery (there is that rainy day I was talking about!) There was no way I was going to buy that multicolored beauty now.

But, six weeks later I still couldn’t shake the thought of those sunglasses. I searched high and low for them and even called my local boutique again. It took the sales associate a few minutes to pin point the pair as there was an identical one in brown tortoiseshell. He inputed the information and said there were no more left in stock. They were limited edition two seasons prior so I had virtually no chance of finding them. I was crushed but this darling fellow said there was something nagging him in the back of the head about this specific style. He asked if he could call me back in an hour or so because he wanted to do some research.

At this point, I wanted these sunglasses. I needed these sunglasses. I was GOING TO HAVE these sunglasses. Even if it took YEARS to find them. I waited not so patiently by my phone when this kind associate called me and said there was one pair in stock somewhere in the United States. He called the previous store and they couldn’t tell him where the glasses went. He could not track the them. But, still, something was nagging him. He said he would call back again.

A few minutes later he called to say there was one pair left in stock AT MY LOCAL BOUTIQUE. Wait, what?? Was this real life? I immediately put them on hold and picked them up the following day.

They were everything I expected them to be. They were big and covered most of my face just like the 50s style. The colors popped against the clear base.

What a journey, huh? The stars aligned for me because what are the true odds of finding LE luxury brand sunglasses almost a year after they came out??

A New Year’s Metallic Waterfall | Nail Art

I still maintain my purchase of the limited edition Chanel Le Bleu nail polishes was completely necessary because when I combed through my collection of polishes for something to wear on New Year’s Eve none of them seemed right. Fortissimo was the only one that spoke to me as the perfect midnight blue for a late night. It definitely did not disappoint! The color and sparkle were quite noticeable, necessary for the glitziest night of the year. Sure, I had other midnight blues but they looked dull next to this gorgeous Chanel!

I also wanted to use this great polish as the base for a fun New Year’s look and thought metallics would pop against the color. I created something that reminds me of fireworks without the extra work of drawing them out and I am very pleased with the final result!

I hope you all had a great start to the New Year and I will talk to you soon!

Blue Rhythm de Chanel Vibrato and Fortissimo | Les Vernis Review

04 Sunday Oct 2015

Purchased.

I first saw an advertisement for this collection in June. I couldn’t find it anywhere and thought it had already launched. I was devastated. Chanel made unique, beautiful nail polishes but there was something extraordinary about their blues. Remember Les Jeans collection from 2011? In August, I noticed a resurgence of Blue Rhythm reviews and my excitement boiled over. I hadn’t missed these two beauties after all!

I wanted to be financially conscious and only purchase Fortissimo but when I saw Vibrato in person I had to have it as well. So, without further ado, let’s jump into the swatches!

Chanel Les Vernis - Fortissimo and Vibrato | The Rite of Aging

(Chanel Les Vernis @ Macy’s)

2 coats, top coat

Chanel Les Vernis Swatch - Vibrato | The Rite of AgingVibrato is an extremely vibrant cobalt blue. I was skeptical that the photos were highly saturated but no, Vibrato is that just that intense. The formula is good. It is thin but not streaky. It applies easily without pulling and levels well. The polish dries quickly which can sometimes an issue with Chanel polishes.

2 coats, top coat

Chanel Les Vernis Swatch - Fortissimo | The Rite of AgingFortissimo is a bright navy with cobalt shimmer running through it. The gorgeous shimmer is prominent both in the bottle and on the nail. This dimension elevates the color from a traditional deep navy to a dynamic midnight blue.

Funny story: I wore this to class and all my students, even the little boys, complimented me on my nails because they were painted their favorite color!

On first application, Fortissimo‘s formula is sheer and streaky and quickly pools into the cuticles. The second coat evens out the color nicely making it an easy two-coater polish. It dries quickly and levels nicely.

I love both polishes and cannot recommend one over the other. They are both extremely unique and gorgeous. If you are like me and love collecting limited edition, one-of-a-kind shades I wouldn’t wait to purchase these. Nordstrom online is already sold out (a sales rep, at the counter, tried purchasing them online and the order was cancelled a couple of days later) but the Macy’s website still has them in stock.

Do you own one or both of these nail colors? What do you think? Love them or leave them?

Monthly Favorites | September 2015

Chanel, Clinique, Hourglass, makeup, Milani, monthly favorites

Some links may be affiliate ones.

I decided to re-start my monthly favorites posts because even though they do not get a lot of traffic I love making them! I also really enjoy reading and viewing other people’s favorites. They are a great way to keep track of fun trends and products!

SEPTFAVES

The first items are actually all part of a new eye makeup look I have really been enjoying.

Chanel Imitation

(Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Long Wearing Luminous Eyeshadow)

I love shimmer so I have no qualms about applying this glittery number all over my eyelids. These eyeshadows do not have a lot of base pigmentation but they build up pretty well. The glitter is prominent but chic. Initiation is the perfect neutral color for me. It is a cool-toned bronze similar to my skin color. The texture is spongy but slippery so I always apply this over primer. As with most glitter it travels during application but once the shadow sets it does not budge. Initiation was discontinued but the more gold Mirage is very similar.

Milani Cosmetics - Bella Copper Gel Powder Eyeshadow | The Rite of Aging

(Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow)

I apply Bella Copper on the outer half of my lid. This shadow is spongy but dense and extremely pigmented. It is a deep warm gold that looks a little brighter once applied. There is no fall out and wears well without fading. These new “gel” shadows are a definitely step up from the old Milani eyeshadows. Bella Caffe and Bella Espresso are next on my list to purchase.

While the product is fantastic I have a serious issue with the packaging. It feels cheap and flimsy. I don’t know if it is just mine but the plastic lid popped out the first time I opened it. I pushed it back in so the product wouldn’t dry out but it falls out with every use. I know packaging can make or break people’s decisions to buy a product so I just wanted to make a note of it.

Clinique 'All About Shadow' Super Shimmer Eyeshadow - Black Honey | The Rite of Aging

(Clinique ‘All About Shadow’ Super Shimmer Eyeshadow)

To finish the look, I apply Black Honey on the outer V of my eye. The good quality of this shadow surprises me as I don’t typically associate Clinique with good cosmetics. I guess there is a reason why the Black Honey line is a cult favorite. The color compliments the skin well, ranging from a deep burgundy to cranberry color. The shadow, itself, is soft and blend-able. While it is not particularly pigmented, over primer the intensity builds up nicely. I noticed it doesn’t crease but it does fade after a few hours, a side effect of low pigmentation! This is not a huge deal for me as I have extremely oily eyelids. I am used to touching up eye makeup frequently during the day.

Hourglass - 'Ambient' Lighting Palette | The Rite of Aging

(Hourglass – ‘Ambient’ Lighting Palette)

I gave into the hype! I held out for a good while but in the end, couldn’t help myself to a new highlighter. I considered purchasing the single pan of Radiant Light but it was more expensive for not that much more product. I could not see myself hitting pan on either in my own lifetime and figured the palette was a better bang for my buck.

Even on my no-makeup days I find myself dusting all three shades over my face. Dim Light provides a matte brightening and blurring effect for my entire skin, Incandescent Light highlights my brow bone and inner corner of the eyes while Radiant Light lends a glow to the top of my nose, cheekbones and forehead. There is a slight shimmer in the second two powders but it is barely visible on the skin. These powders provide a subtle radiance to the entire face for healthy-looking skin but do not build up to a high intensity highlight.

Have you tried any of these products? Do you like them? Let me know in the comments!

And, if you purchase online and haven’t already, sign up with Ebates! Many sites like Nordstrom, Sephora and Macy’s have great cashback options! (I am not affiliated with Ebates but have a referral code that everyone who has an account gets).
