I am making it right under the wire today! I am teaching two half-day summer camps this week so in an attempt to make myself feel less tired today, I did all my chores yesterday but that just made me too tired yesterday to paint my nails! Ah, irony.

Just as well, though, because today’s prompt was a no-brainer. I only have one “handwriting” stamp and I wanted to create an old parchment watercolor base.

I am really digging this new watercolor technique. I use torn up pieces of latex-free makeup sponge completely saturated in acetone. I dilute the polishes completely and dab them on the nail to build up opacity until I am happy!

Well hello everyone!! I was really scared about today’s prompt! I have never attempted watermelon nails so the first idea that came to mind was to freehand them. Nothing new here but I chickened out!

I was so unsure about today’s nails I took to Instagram and searched hashtag “watermelon nails”. I ran across a matte gradient by IG@b_jessica_3 and knew immediately I had to re-create that look. I decided not to matte the final result or add seeds. I wanted to, but in the end decided to leave well enough alone. It might have looked alright but I think given how soft, blurred and pastel the colors are stark harsh dark seeds would look really odd!

 

In real life the pink is a lot more prominent but unfortunately, we know my track record with photographing whites. I tweaked my hand position a little to capture the pink a little more but it still came out a bit wonky…

I promised I tried. I really tried not to use the Born Pretty Store plate. I have so many vines or foliage stamps; gorgeous, pretty stamps on my Pueen plates but I cannot help but use this BPS one. It has the perfect leaves for the look and feel I want.

I’ve seen this look so many times. It is especially popular on tourists shirts. Well, why not? Nothing quite says warm vacation more than summery neon plant fronds!

I dreamt about this look and knew exactly what I was going to do for today’s prompt. It came out exactly the way I wanted and I was so excited I posted them on Instagram early.

I hope you like this as much as I do!

I knew from the get-go I was going to stamp today. I own so many stamping plates with flowers on them but I rarely use them! It’s the weirdest thing. I love the look of floral but not actually don’t. Weird, huh, it doesn’t even make sense! I would rather have anything else on my nails or clothes! I figure everyone has those things they just like looking at but never use…Speaking of which…

I have used every single one of my Bundle Monster plates at least once since I bought them two years ago; all, except two: the french tip ones. I am not a French tip mani type of girl; never was and never will be but a challenge is the best time to branch out a little, right?

I went with something simple today. I hit a serious stamping wall. I know there are so options: lead-lighting, reverse stamping, decals, the list goes on. But, I am not feeling any of them. There is nothing wrong with good old-fashioned stamping, though! And, honestly, I can’t imagine anything else would look half as good against this busy base

Patterns…What are patterns? They are recurrent shapes or lines of any colors. That means I can do absolutely anything with this prompt. Initially, I wanted to stamp but I stared at every single “pattern” and had no idea what to do with it!

So, I back peddled a little and went with quick and easy dots. I don’t know if it technically counts as a pattern as it doesn’t repeat on each nail…but it is the same across the hand…so, it’s a pattern, right??

I am trying to stay one day ahead of the challenge. That way, if I experience a bad flare one day and cannot nail paint, I don’t fall hideously behind like last year! It’s the worst feeling in the world to miss a couple of prompts and not be able to catch up.

You know what I can’t find very easily anymore? Skratch Art pages! They were my favorite crafts and so easy to find in the kid’s aisle at the drugstore. Now everything has gotten all fancy-shmancy and I can’t find these simple pleasures. I may not be able to play with the real thing but I can certainly re-create it on my nails!

I L-O-V-E how this came out! Neons are my faves…and while I may not be the biggest fan of chevrons, these KBShimmer decals are easy and work well with this design.

From the not so RA-friendly to the super RA-friendly, I bring you a simple glitter gradient!

I really love this glitter topper. It always reminds me of circus big tops!

Fun fact: I am terrified of the circus and any included parts. I don’t have any particular reasons, they are completely irrational with no basis at all!

 

I was a little skeptical to put this glitter against the same silver base from a couple of days ago but it just didn’t pop against any other color! I hope you don’t mind!!
