A Holographic Artic Chill | Nail Art & Born Pretty Store Holo Flakies Review

Boy, oh boy, did we get a chill last week. We had a pretty mild, dare I say, warm start to the winter? Well, the day after Christmas the temperature plummeted. We experienced a freezing cold we hadn’t felt in years. Any exposed skin froze and nobody could recognize anyone else through scarfs, hats, ear muffs, mouth guards, etc.

When thinking about nail art, all I could think was “blue”. Icy, cold, blue. I even bought more blue polish (numb – like the rest of my body – to the 20 blue polishes I already owned).

I received some holographic flakies from Born Pretty Store for review and the ideas just flowed through: an icy gradient with holo flakes. GENIUS!

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by these flakies. There was a good mix of small and big pieces and they all lay flat beautifully. In the past, I’ve had issues with big glitter just because they didn’t apply evenly but, these from BPS, were really something. The pieces were soft, malleable and easy to manipulate. And, of course…Very arthritis-friendly.  I would highly recommend this product (they have multiple colors) because you get a good amount of product at a very cheap price. Bonus points for easy, stress-free removal.

FYI: The small hexagon and blue glitters are from an OPI polish.

I hope you like this look. Don’t forget to comment your thoughts and…

Every nail artist has at least one glitter nail polish in his or her stash. It’s just not possible to not have it. I have multiple, mostly from old brands that no longer exist so the glitter base has dried out and they are unusable. I miss the old Milani and Sephora by OPI but I hold on to the bottles just in case one day…these brands return! They probably won’t but I can dream, right??

Speaking of, I used one of those old SOPI polishes in today’s look. A simple glitter gradient that reminds me of all the blood that leaves my body through draws, diagnostics and IVs. How lovely!

Glitter gradients are one of the most arthritis friendly nail art techniques. You can either apply glitter directly with the nail polish brush or, for more exact placement you can use a large soft makeup wedge sponge. If your arthritis is under control you can even use a foam tip eye shadow applicator for even more precision!

Gradients are the best! They bring unlikely colors together without too much work. Granted, these are not the most arthritis friendly techniques but they look so freaking cool!

Apparently, I have a knack for creating neons because once again the tips ended up flourescent. I wish I could blame it on my camera but the neon just burst forth in person as well.

I hope you like today’s look as much as I do! Don’t forget to check out the Inlinkz below and use the social media hashtag #31DC2017 if you participate!

Gradient nail art designs sit in the middle of the arthritis friendly scale. These easy nail art techniques require a sponge and the light dabbing motion that could affect the wrist. Otherwise, gradient nail designs are very simple to do. If you are not in a flare and are feeling particularly strong…this is another technique to add to your arsenal!

I adore gradients especially because they take two unlikely colors and blend them together beautifully.

I recently went through my polish collection and found some favorite Barry M polishes hidden in my stash and I had to use them. (FYI USA readers — Barry M is a UK drugstore brand that is amazing…unfortunately it is extremely difficult to get stateside.)

The gradient I made was looking slightly bare so I added some fun Pueen water decals on top. And yes, water decals are the most arthritis friendly nail art technique ever.

Want to make your own gradient? Scroll all the way down to the end for a tutorial by Nail Career Education. The woman rambles a bit but she gives some good tips to achieving this fun nail art look.

Enjoy!

I haven’t done a gradient in a very long time and I just felt like doing one! Pink and purple together are always a great and forgiving option. I mean that I can spend half as much time sponging the gradient when the colors complement each other! This is a great thing when I am feeling stiff from the RA.

Enjoy! I added double stamping because well…why not? Do you like the index finger or the others better? I can’t decide!

gradient2I actually forgot I had these China Glaze polishes in my stash since they were all the way in the back. After clean-up, though, I kind of remember why I don’t use them that often.

gradient3Though, these colors blended so well I am kind of mesmerized! I did use a transition color between the bright pink and dark purple and that really elevated this gradient to the next level.

gradient1Base: SinfulColors Snow Me White (to make the colors on top pop)

Gradient: China Glaze Purple Panic (pink), Caribbean Temptation (transition), Zoya Haven

Stamping: Pueen Cosmetics stamping plate PUEEN83, Konad Nail Art Stamping Polish – White, Color Club Nail Lacquer On the Rocks (silver)

Winter means….

…snowflake nail art! I am obsessed with snowflake nail art. My MoYou London plate (website linked here) remains my most used stamping plate of the year. That sounds kind of sad but it is absolutely amazing. The best thing is I can use it well past December! Where I live it snows until March so I never feel weird or out of placing putting it on my nails.

I hope you like this icy gradient and double stamping look I created for the Challenge Your Nail Art 12 Days of Christmas!

31DC2016 – Beach Themed Gradient | Nails

I combined a couple of different prompts and created a twilight beach themed gradient. I generally opt for two color gradients but tried my hand at three. My nails are too short to evenly display all three colors but I think the asymmetry adds to the twilight effect nicely.

gradientGradient (from tip to cuticle): China Glaze In the Lime-light, Pop Beauty Pacific Hoot, American Apparel Neon Purple
