Orencia – Month Seven | Rheumatoid Arthritis & Nail Art

I have been on Orencia Abatacept for seven months. This is around the time we see the effects plateau. I took Orencia three times previously, both in subcutaneous and interveneous forms and each time I saw a dip in its effectiveness.

Orencia always works better than the other biologic medications. I feel less fatigued, painful and swollen. I also do not have any reactions to it which is a huge bonus.

And, even though this medication works best, the effects only last a couple of weeks. When I feel well, I wake up early and only need a short nap during the day but as the Orencia wears off I sleep later in the mornings and pass out for hours at a time during the afternoons. Sleeping is the best. I love napping but if I look back on the past five years I realize I spent more than half of it not awake! That’s a lot of time wasted…

When I go in for my infusion I am down for the count for a couple of days. I am not necessarily lethargic or painful, just a little out of it. Once the following week rolls around I snap back to attention, I have a bounce in my step and I feel “better”.

As the Orencia builds up in my system I do not think I will feel “better” immediately after each infusion but I shouldn’t feel worse. I still crave sleep and feel a noticeable dip in energy toward 3 or 4 pm. I am not sure if this is normal for seven months into this medication.

I sometimes feel like climbing after work but more often than not I just feel tired. The farther I have to drive (for work) the less likely I can do anything afterwards. I am usually too exhausted to even do my nails!

Regardless of my grievances, I prefer Orencia more than the other biologics but I wish it worked even better. But, I guess, beggars can’t be choosers!

Below, is the nail art I made for this month’s Orencia post. I hope you like it!

We are now on the home stretch of the 31-Day Challenge! I hope I finish as strong as I started!

How can I only choose one color for today’s prompt? I can’t! So, I created a dotticure with my favorite color combination: blue and orange. I know the colors are not typically found together but they go so well!

I hope you like it!

I am trying to stay one day ahead of the challenge. That way, if I experience a bad flare one day and cannot nail paint, I don’t fall hideously behind like last year! It’s the worst feeling in the world to miss a couple of prompts and not be able to catch up.

You know what I can’t find very easily anymore? Skratch Art pages! They were my favorite crafts and so easy to find in the kid’s aisle at the drugstore. Now everything has gotten all fancy-shmancy and I can’t find these simple pleasures. I may not be able to play with the real thing but I can certainly re-create it on my nails!

I L-O-V-E how this came out! Neons are my faves…and while I may not be the biggest fan of chevrons, these KBShimmer decals are easy and work well with this design.

Stamping and Ombre Nail Art for NAIL

I am still down with the hip flare and am using a combination of a cane and  walker to get around. Last Wednesday I went climbing but I felt really good afterwards. My current flare did not start until mid-Friday so I don’t know if they are related but I cannot see any other correlation!

Unfortunately, I was supposed to clean my room and bathroom this weekend but could barely get out of bed without assistance. A cluttered room does not usually bother me but when I am sick it gets on my last nerve. I just can’t stand laying in a disorganized environment when I cannot do anything about it. Do you feel like cleaning more when you’re ill, too?

Sometimes, if I do not have the luxury of a full clean I lightly tidy. During a bad flare I am unable to move very much so I incorporate a little re-organization when I do get up. It only takes a couple of extra minutes to put little things away and I feel a whole lot better! Of course, this is not the time to do any heavy lifting, like vacuuming, but a little dusting goes a long way! If I have to get up to go to the bathroom or get something to eat I might as well do a little housework as well. I feel like I am actually getting something done without tacking on extra movement.

I wanted something quick and easy for today’s nail art. The ombre style is very RA-friendly and a no-hassle way to include multiple colors! I hope you like my slightly embellished ombre look!

Blue Stamping Ombre | The Rite of AgingBases (from index to pinky nail):

Glitter Gal Bluemerang

China Glaze UV Meant to Be

Pop Beauty Pacific Hoot

Anise Neon – Make Waves

I stamped with Pueen Cosmetics plate PUEEN 76 and Konad Special Polish White.

Neon Splatter and Gradient Nail Art

It is the return of the neons!…and the lightbox! Today’s nail art consists of some old neons and some from the China Glaze collection. I realize I need more powerful white, daylight bulbs. The ones I have cast too much of a yellow tint and it’s hard to capture a good picture :(. I will try to take a sunlight picture tomorrow if the weather perks up!

I hope you like it!

Neon Splatter and Gradient Nail Art | The Rite of AgingI used Essie No Place Like Chrome and Sinful Colors Snow Me White as my bases.

I splattered with Color Club Pucci-licious, China Glaze UV Meant to Be and Violet Vibes.

I created with the gradient with Pop Beauty Pacific Hoot and China Glaze UV Meant to Be.

Watercolor Distressed Nail Art

Have you ever had those moments when you just hate on your dominant hand nails? For the most part I love the nails on my left hand. I don’t have to do a lot to them to keep them neat and in shape…but today they just look horrid with nail polish on. I am so tempted to take EVERYTHING off because I can’t even handle it right now. This art did take me a boatload of time; specifically, the entire Bachelor finale and after the final rose episode, so maybe I’ll keep it on.

I love how the final result came out, though, but it looks hideous against gross nails. Know what I mean?

I wanted to try this watercolor nail art again with pinks, purples and blues. I really like messing with a look until I have it “just right” without it looking bulky or manipulated. Thinning the polish with acetone ensures neither of those happen! I think the watercolor distressed look is really RA-friendly but I would necessarily classify this look as such.

The polishes I used definitely worked differently than the ones I used in the green plaid (linked here) because I think they were a lot thicker. This didn’t make them harder to work with but definitely created a different effect.

I sealed everything with Seche Vite but everything still finished sort of matte! I hope you like it!

Watercolor Distressed Plaid | The Rite of Aging

DSCF4413_fotorFor this look I started with Formula X for Sephora Thrilling as my base.

I used acetone, a square brush and detail brush and the following polishes

  • Pahlish Le Bijou de Roi
  • Milani Vivid Violet, Fast Fuchsia
  • Pop Beauty Pacific Hoot
  • Color Club Warhol
  • Sephora by OPI Domestic Goddess

Challenge Your Nail Art: Icy Blue Colors

This post is super late. I had done one on time with this awesome water marble, but the sugar spun ended up looking muddy and the colors just looked disgusting. So, I re-did it a couple of days later without the sugar-spin but I couldn’t take pictures until this morning. There is a little tip wear so apologies in advance! Also, sorry for the pretty poor photo quality…I cannot photograph whites to save my life….I still need to play with the settings on my camera 😦

I hope you like it!

Mergh…I’m sorry I don’t quite remember all the polishes I used…If you want to know please comment and I’ll find out. Ergh, I am sorry…the cold weather is finally getting to me…I am so out of it right now.

Oh, and I stamped with Konad and some new plates from the MoYou London Festive collection.

Check out the other icy blue manicures below!
