Born Pretty Store, marbling, Nail Art, review

Product provided for honest review.

I have not yet mastered the needle drag marble. For the most part, I get the design I want but I always scrape through the bottom layers leaving an unsightly nick to my bare nail.

marbletoolfullmarblingtoolI noticed Born Pretty Store a new marbling comb. I wanted to streamline a one-needle design which can be painstakingly long! The grip of this tool is easy  and the comb glides through polish easily. However, the needles are in a straight line so the polishes mix together too easily and I quickly lose the marbleized look. If the picks are staggered I could get a smaller, more detailed design which I usually prefer.

marbleBase: SinfulColors Midnight Blue

Marble: SinfulColors Rise & Shine, Why Not, Hazed

Tool: Marbling Comb ($3.98 here)

Blue, Blue and Blue Dots | Nail Art

Asymmetrical dotticures are my second favorite look (after sugar-spins). I like that there is no pattern so I do not have to painstakingly measure the area between dots. They do not have to be perfectly sized to their neighbors and the eye plays tricks so the nail always looks the same as the others.

I hope you like it!

The Interesting Thing About Mother’s Day

mother's day, pets

Marmalade and SunsilkStrange fact: My cats have both been in my life longer than my mother.

We adopted Marmalade 14 years ago and Sunsilk, 13. My mother passed away 14 years ago.

If you were to ask me…would I trade the pets for my mom you are a cruel person.

I would give anything to have my mother back in my life. Twelve years was not a long enough time to get to know or appreciate her. But, if she hadn’t died then I would not have had Marmalade, Sunsilk, Affie or Saachi. I’m sure at some point we would have a pet it would have been a different one because the timing was different.

I wish I had the best of both worlds but of course, that was not possible. But no, I wouldn’t trade. That might make me a bad person but I’m a firm believer in things happening for reason and people/animals come into your life at the right time.

My mother protected and taught me. She was the best mom I could ask for. But, so were the pets. They taught me patience. They taught me responsibility and in their capacity they protected me.

Would I trade? No. Could I choose? No. I would be a different person if my mother lived or these animals were not in my life.

I don’t mind the rain, when I’m in Washington state. However, I live in Washington DC and one week without sun is just wrong. Partially because I crave sunny, bright weather but also, I can’t take good pictures!

My apologies on the below picture…but I was craving doing my nails and this randomly popped into my head. Not sure about the ants; they were on the stamping plate and I’d never used them before!

I hope you like it!

silvergoldBase: Formula X Nails White Matter (a seriously great one-coater!)

Gradient: Formula X Nails Platinum Prime, Zoya Goldie

Stamping: Pueen Cosmetics plate, Konad Special Polish Black

#AtoZChallenge Nails – V, X,…and Vibrato

During this challenge I had to go through my nail polish spreadsheet to look up names and brands but since the beginning I knew I’d use Chanel’s Vibrato for the V prompt.

This blue is just as saturated and bright in real life and it makes me so happy! I was on a strict no-buy when this shade came out in Fall 2015 but I had to break it. I bought this and Fortissimo (both part of the Les Bleu de Chanel collection) and I’m so glad I did. No regrets because Chanel does blue beauty so well!

I hope you like my striping tape and gradient look. I still hate striping tape. Next time, I’m free handing that V or X (whatever you choose to see)!

#AtoZChallenge – V is for Variety

Blogging A to Z, blogging community

As homo sapiens we have the luxury of extreme variation in almost everything. We are capable of eating anything and making almost everything edible. We can create almost anything and innovate them. We can travel anywhere in the world using various forms of transportations. We change the parameters of everything and are not obstructed by limits.

So, why is it with so much variety we are such creatures of habit, content in a rut, rarely venturing out to experience new things?

#AtoZChallenge – Z is for Zebra Stripes

Blogging A to Z, blogging community

“Can zebras change their stripes?” is the age old question akin to “which came first, the chicken or the egg?”

Each zebra has a unique pattern much like each human has an individual set of fingerprints. A zebra’s fur boils down to its genetics: how long each hair grows, what pattern, what ratio of white to black.

So, can a zebra change its stripes? Biologically, the answer is no. If you shave everything off, the hair grows back the same way.

But, what if the answer is yes?

Remember the black and blue (read: white and gold) dress that broke the internet a couple of years ago? Obviously, the garment is manufactured with certain colors. It is not made with magical threads that shift color with light or computer model. Nevertheless, people were up in arms that what they saw was correct! “It is blue and black!” “No, you’re SO wrong, it’s white and gold. Get your eyes checked, idiot!”

The dress is, in fact, black and blue, but slight differences in ambient lighting and retinal recognition change everyone’s perception. Perception, it all came down to perception; which on its own is not a quantifiable phenomenon. Perception is an individual, subjective opinion that, by definition, varies from person to person.

So, back to the question, can a zebra change it’s stripes?

Yes, it can because it all depends on how we see it. Like the dress, people swear the zebra is white with black stripes while others maintain it’s black with white ones. Occasionally the fully colorblind people will say zebras sport a greyscale pattern because they see the gradients more clearly without color.

And, just how everyone quickly expresses their opinion as testament, I also ask “can a human change it’s stripes?”.
