I’ve mentioned a couple of times I really love Incoco nail strips, however, I rarely wear them because I do not usually keep nail art for more than couple of days.

Incoco Appliques claim to last at least 14 days. I mean, just wow. Of course, I’ve never kept nail polish on for that long. The last time I wore these strips they did last at least 5 days which is a-ok in my book.

So, today, I was working on my A2Z P is for Pale post and came up with this really fantastic sponged base. Then, I thought I would stamp and I just effed the entire thing up. It looked so much better without the stamp. I couldn’t post or finish it. Feeling ultimately defeated and ill from shoveling snow I decided to walk down ready-to-wear lane.

Now, these specific strips I’ve had for over a year if not longer so I had quite a bit of trouble. I think they dried out and they unfortunately dried out during the process. I could only use each stripe once after taking off the protective covering.

Incoco AppliquesMy nails are super small! The smaller sizes fit my thumb, index, third and fourth fingers. I think the smallest would have also worked for the pinky but I was applying them in order from thumb to pinky and ran out! In order to remedy this I decided to use the larger decals and then cleanup with acetone. It did not work well at all! In retrospect I should have cut the appliques to size. Since I did not think about this until afterward I placed them both pinkies look a little odd.

There is a definite learning curve to these appliques but I do like them. They are made from real nail polish so they attach and stretch well with a little body heat.I don’t remember having this much trouble the last time I applied them and I think it has a lot to do with the age of the strips.

The designs are so pretty though! I personally have to use the full design decals because my nails are too short and the tip designs don’t even reach! The polish strips are pretty expensive but I think I’m going to give them another try just because it they are so convenient. I do have some Bundle Monster strips I won in a contest I want to try first, though.

Nail wraps and appliques like this are super RA-friendly! I do not have to mess too much with teeny tiny details and they stick pretty easily. These are a great nail art alternative when I just do not have the dexterity and strength to do my own!

Incoco does a bunch of different designs, plain colors, and french manicure tips on their website here. The designs retail at USD$8.99 but if you’re careful when applying and storing them, you might get two manicures out of each set. If not, keep the extras and use them as accents later on!

Have you tried Incoco? Do you like them? Have you had the same issues as me?

Waterspotting and Dotticure Nail Art: The Fire Doesn’t Always Burn Gold

The last couple of days left me totally uninspired. Nothing in particular except for that time I shoveled snow and busted my spine…and that other time I had to lift my mastiff out of the car because she knew she was at the vets and dug her legs into every open crevice around the seat.

I could hear my doctor’s voice in the back of my head, and I could see his expression floating in front of my eyes but, I had to do what I had to do; even if it made me feel awful later.

Anyways…

Months ago Glam Polish released a limited edition Lord of the Rings collection of polishes. I did not delay in purchasing it…it sold out within days so I consider myself the lucky few who managed to grab the entire collection. I was so excited when I received the collection and meant to post swatches. Instead, I couldn’t bring myself to use them and placed them on my Lord of the Rings shelf (I did not just admit that to the entire interwebs)!

I finally used them and I can’t believe I waited so long. The holographic shimmer in these are amazing! As you all know, I do not generally post swatches but I decided to give it a try. The picture below was taken in fluorescent lighting. It really picked out the silver sparkle.

Glisten & Glow – HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat

glam polish fires of mordorI tried to capture the polish in incandescent light as it showed the gold shimmer but I couldn’t get my camera to behave.

I can’t get over this polish and can’t wait to incorporate the other colors into nail art! The consistency was great. It was a little thick but in the good, unmoving, doesn’t pool kind of way!

Also, let me gush on how wonderfully this silver water-spotted. It reacted beautifully with the hairspray. It’s my favorite stamping polish and now it’s my favorite water polish too (Shhh, let’s not talk about cleanup)!

Waterspotting and Distressed Nail Art | The Rite of AgingI used 2 coats of Glam Polish Fires of Mordor as my base.

I dotted with Color Club Mrs. Robinson and Pucci-licious.

I water-spotted with Essie No Place Like Chrome.

Distressed Nail Art for the Chinese New Year

My mom celebrated the Chinese New Year and after my first complete zodiac cycle she wrote me a card. I rarely keep cards but I couldn’t get rid of this one after her death. It has her handwriting on it and that makes me feel like she’s still around.

I thought I would do a simple, RA-friendly nail art for this Chinese New Year. I hope you like it!

I used Wet n Wild I Red a Good Book as my base. As you know, I am not a fan of true reds. They just don’t look good on me. So, for the purpose of nail art I bought a cheap one. Unfortunately, unlike my favorite Black Creme this polish is pretty awful. The formula mimics a jelly, but it is not a jelly polish. The brush is strange and broad but uneven so there is no way to paint my nails properly. Yay for acetone and cleanup!

I distressed with Sephora by OPI Mr. Right Now, Zoya Goldie and Revlon Parfumerie Fresh Linen.

We’re halfway through the A2Z Series and Charlie put together a post about the blogger’s favorites manicures so far!

Pocket Money Polishes's avatarPocket Money Polishes

So we’ve just got past the halfway point and I thought it would be good to catch up with the bloggers taking part and put them all in once place. You might remember the “Meet the Bloggers” introduction post, this is my version of a follow up as I think it’s great to stay in touch with everyone through out the challenge and keep each other going. We’ve also had a few new people joining us so hopefully by the end of this post you’ll have seen a couple of them.  For anyone who doesn’t know A2Z is a 26 week series with a theme for each letter of the alphabet, we post once a week on Thursdays – you can find complete archives HERE and we have #A2ZNails on IG so you can check us out there as well.

For this post I asked the bloggers/instagrammers to send me…

Waterfall Nail Art for the A2Z Series: O is for Old

Check the sidebar for more information.

I kind of struggled with this prompt. I could do all sorts of things. Some ideas that crossed my mind: use my oldest polish (but with what technique?) or attempt my first and oldest nail art (really not feeling the watermarble today). Then it hit me: I was toying with the idea of getting a thick grey streak in my hair. As early as middle school, I played with highlights and fun colors and even a year ago I sported orange and blue! But, the condition of my hair while growing out the Pixie took priority and I stopped bleaching it.

When people get old, their hair gets grey…I love grey hair, if maintained properly it looks so chic!

It was so frigidly cold outside due to wind chilld and my RA flared up so I stuck with some RA-friendly nail art: the waterfall manicure!

I hope you like it!

Black and White Waterfall Nail Art | The Rite of Aging

a2z o is for old polishesI started with Wet n Wild Black Creme as my base. I searched and searched for this polish because I started running low on my current bottle. I finally found it at my CVS! It was always out of stock and now I know why, they re-vamped the polish bottle. Even so, I bought two just in case!

I detailed with Milani Color Statement Spotlight White, Barry M Gelly Chai, Nails inc. LONDON Foubert’s Place, and Essie On a Silver Platter.

Freehand and Watermarble Nail Art: Classic Colors

I was in a freehand mood this evening and thought I’d give it a try. I know, weird, right?? I cut down one of my brushes and think the thinner point works a whole lot better!

I wanted to try a black and white watermarble after I saw Peachy Polish’s valentine nail art and decided to doodle some flowers for contrast. I thought I would try something relatively familiar, I always doodle these on paper!

Freehand and Watermarble Nail Art | The Rite of Aging

peachy polish valentine 2015I know my marble does not even rival Valesha’s but I am pretty happy with my overall look. At first, I tried for two marble nails but I could not get the second to look right so I just left it alone. The polishes swam together and I did not get as crisp a line as I wanted.

For the watermarble I used Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Wet n Wild Black Creme.

I used Zoya Anais as the base on the other nails and white acrylic paint for the flowers.

I hope you like it…As you know, I don’t usually go for freehand but I just felt like giving it a go!

Born Pretty Store Round Stamping Plate Review

When I saw the woodland creatures plate on the Born Pretty Store website I knew I had to have it. I mean, animals, forest animals…and a panda!

I have a short review for you today on another round, single plate. I hope you like the nail art I created with it!

bps plate review

I used a handful of images from the plate and some acrylics for the trees. I am really pleased with how this came out! It was exactly what I imagined!

BPS plates 35

The above image links to the product’s information.

Thoughts:

I am a huge fan of this plate. I had no issues. The polish swiped away easily, the image transferred crisply to the stamper and then to the nail. I have not had any other trouble with the round plates I’ve tried from BPS. I only wish the animals were just a little smaller. As you can see the images barely fit on my nails!

I definitely prefer these over the larger rectangular plates. Regardless of the minor issues I had with the rectangular plates, I prefer singular images over full-nail patterns. When it comes to pricing, though, you get more bang for your buck in buying the rectangular plates but you won’t find these cute one-off images on them.

Don’t forget to check out the Born Pretty Store nail art page for a whole host of different goodies. Stamping plates are just a small part of what they have to offer!
