This year I will try to comment on more blogs. I read the posts and continually fall behind on Bloglovin’ but I am always too chicken to comment; especially when there are 40+ already there! I am also trying to pin more. I am already addicted to Pinterest and don’t nearly pin enough…yep, I said it!

Anyways, below are 5 favorites from last month!

PiggieLuv - Jan15favesCan we just talk about how Narmai used real chalk for this look? She said she did not have great control while “writing on the chalkboard” but I couldn’t tell the difference. The writing is so small and perfect. It shoots me straight back to high school! Narmai really uses her nails as a canvas!

Lady Maid Nails - Jan15favesI became familiar with Mandy’s blog during Debbie’s (The Crumpet) 31-Day Challenge this month. I absolutely love Mandy’s freehand! I especially love her take on the reversed polarities prompt. It is a total throwback to when my mom took me to the science discovery store and I played with the electric ball. Whenever I touched it the current turned pink as I moved my hand around.

fixintofaff - jan15favesHow cool is this sponging?? Ali only used the three primary colors to achieve this look. The Barry Ms she used were on the darker side so the final result came out cool and vampy…click the above link to see the finished look. How cool is this “during” picture?

hourglass ambient powderI love highlighters. Especially those I can sweep on even when I am not wearing foundation. Regardless of how well I take care of my skin, it sometimes looks sallow and medicine-ridden. I wear every single one of the above shades and I always look glow-y! The colors are soft and diffuse easily. Initially, I considered only buying the more golden tone “Radiant Light” but highlighters in the palette are quite smaller than the singles and about half the price but honestly, I cannot imagine going through any of them in my lifetime. Anyways, having three shades is a lot more versatile! I did not anticipate purchasing this palette but the checkout line waits right next to the Hourglass display…

69a7d4a246e9db5ba47533d5a17ae5b9.jpgAnd finally…Bao Bao plays in the first real DC snowfall. Enough said.

Definitely check out my Pinterest pages (nails – here) and (other things – here). There are a host of AMAZING nails especially from the Fairy Tales Digital Dozen week and some seriously cool random stuff including the map of Middle Earth drawn on a coffee cup.

December Favorites

Today I decided to take a break from the 31 day challenge and hard reboot my nails. This meant soak them in an oil concoction, shape my cuticles, moisturize, cut, file and shape them. I will double up on prompts some time by the weekend.

I still wanted to post today when I realized I had not yet done my December showcase! So, I picked a handful of manicures and got to work. Check out my Pinterest page (here) for my other favorites!

dec.favoritesRoselynn created this manicure for the Challenge Your Nail Art December series. I love everything about this manicure. The lights pop against the white base and the shading makes the bulbs glow. It is a cute holiday manicure.

dec.favesLet’s talk about how ridiculous this manicure is. Ali created sweaters for her nails; she actually made sweaters. She stamped sweater designs over flocking powder and embellished with rhinestones. This blows my mind because A) the flocking powder doesn’t look messy and B) the stamping is so crisp! I can’t even. Just wow.

dec.favesSammy’s short nail manicures are so accessible to me because I prefer to keep my own nails short. I have a soft spot for snowflakes, purple and simple festive designs. Sammy always reminds me simple can be even more gorgeous than busy designs.

383282ef484de5a49c50a9f384f28e57Gemma always stamps perfectly. It is no surprise I was blown away by her gradient stamping. The colors are so icy and the base color finishes the whole look. I was super jealous of this manicure because I had tried my first gradient stamp and while the stamping came out crisp the color came out marbled and muddy!

dec.faves

Sorry for the super large picture but it was hard to see any smaller!

I have been on a makeup slump the last few months. I did not try new makeup nor wear different looks. I was in a rut until I received an email from Sephora allowing VIBs early access to the new Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar palette. This email came at an opportune time when I realized the eyeshadows in the original palette leaned cooler purple and were unflattering on me in the paler winter months. Generally, at any time of the year, I opt for warmer more bronze-gold shades and this new semisweet palette offers them. The eyeshadows do not smell as chocolatey as the first ones do but otherwise the shadows blend well, there is not a lot of fallout, and there is a good mix of matte and glitter-y shadows.

Yikes! It is already mid-December and I have not posted my favorite nail arts from November? This month is flying by. Can you imagine? We are just over 10 days away from Christmas…then we will be in 2015. What is going on??

Anyways, here are my top 5 picks from this past month, in no particular order. Check out the rest at my Pinterest page linked (here). By the way, I am so happy I finally figured out how to pin images from Instagram!!

November Favorites from Will Paint for FoodI gush over Meghan’s nail art. Her freehand is gorgeous and I especially love her art-inspired styles. Each component of this artist’s palette is well-defined while still incorporating the water-color washout style.

November Favorites from CraftynailJacqui does the cutest freehand designs. Her animals are super adorable and always make me smile. I love the on-edge ears of these pandas. They instantly reminded me of that episode of FRIENDS where Joey competes on the game show and guesses “A GHOST?” You know what expression I’m talking about 😉

November Favorites from @stefka62_sevlievoI love Stefmal’s nail art. Each of her designs have a sweet but sassy quality. These stuffed toys are the cutest. The bears are so snuggly and I think the small transparent glitter discs are the cherries on top. They add to the whimsical feel of this manicure.

November Favorites from K's Nail ArtAll of Kairi’s manicures are superb! She has a eye for geometric shapes and gorgeous color combinations. Her plaid designs are always on my list of favorites. I mean. Purple. Plaid. Beautiful.

November Favorites from Topshop

These super comfortable socks from Topshop are warm, easy to scrunch down around the ankle, and they do not skew the look of my feet. Check out Topshop’s “3 for $15” website promo if you’re interested. There are so many holiday-themed styles to choose from.

I hope you like my selection of favorites this month!

September/October Favorites Showcase

I did not do a September favorites so I decided to combine the two months! If you remember I spent three weeks of September asleep, when I woke up I spent another week beating myself up for being asleep for three weeks. Yes, I know it’s not my fault I was so fatigued but I still felt like I wasted away three weeks of my life. That being said I fell behind with my blogs and could not get through them quickly enough to do a favorites last month. Check out my two Pinterest boards (here – Sept.) and (here – Oct.)

more nail polish - sept. favoritesI have a soft spot for galaxy nails and for cats so it really is no surprise that I fell in love with these More Nail Polish nails she did for the 31 day challenge. The color scheme is awesome, the detailing is not muddy and the kitties are just plain cute. This actually reminded me strongly of a shirt Target sells on their website (linked here). Actually, this shirt has a very funny story.

At the climbing gym I work at there is a “free crap cubby”. People always chuck things in there for others to take. Well, this shirt ended up in there.  One of my coworkers said the shirt did not fit him so another one tried it. He argued it was also too small for him (which it wasn’t, but I guess guys are weird about how their shirts fit) so he hot potato-ed it. I jumped up and down gurgling “I want it! I want it!” trying to get my word in before another coworker did. Of course, I forgot to pick it up when I left for the day and she snagged it. I totally bought that shirt.

@debrasnailart - sept. favesI discovered Debra in the Challenge Your Nail Art group. Her freehand work is amazing.  The detailing and shading make me believe I am looking at a painting and I can tell what animals I’m looking at. Check out her Instagram, her manicures are awesome!

lacquerologist - sept. favesIt is probably no surprise I am a pet adoption advocate. It really guts me so many shelter animals are euthanized because of no better reason than space constraints. When I saw Emily’s manicure, it hit a soft spot. I love the simplicity of the two colors and wording. It says what it needs to say without becoming crowded. And the shimmer of the base just says “hope” to me.

chalkboard nails - oct. favesI am always in awe of Sarah’s manicures but I especially love her simpler ones. This is abstract, easy to do, and I can mess around with the technique until I am happy with the finished product. It only requires two colors and acetone yet this nail art has so much depth.  Depending on the colors I use, this manicure is perfect for any time of year or for any occasion. I wanted to try this for the “villains” prompt earlier this week but my vampire bats won out.

fixin to faff - oct. favesI always love Ali’s manicures but I have a super soft spot for her plaid designs. The colors in this look work well together, the stamping is perfect and I’m in awe that she stamped with a holo polish. Ali’s pictures are always so cool since she holds a different prop and the lighting is flawless.

adventures in acetone - oct. favesI especially love the Jacki’s sponging for this look. I can’t get enough of that silver fading into the purple as a spider web gets bigger and, in theory, thinner. These two colors fade nicely together and the silver really pops on top of them. Regardless, it doesn’t clash since both the purple and gray appear to have silver shimmer running through them. I usually dislike anything with spiders or webs but this detailing is really cool.

31DC2014 - September 5: Blue | The Rite of AgingI generally would not include one of my manicures but this one is special. It was a double gradient that came out exactly the way I wanted it to and it received more than 100 likes on Instagram. Which I think is pretty cool and made me feel really awesome. Thank you everyone for sticking with me!

I hope you’ll like my favorites picks for the last couple of months. These of course are not the only favorites so don’t forget to check out the pinchers boards to see all of them.
