I am finally getting the hang  of water-marbling!

For today’s prompt I decided to go with something very subtle. It took me forever to get a photograph that picked up the design.

Metallics Water-Marble

I applied two coats of Chanel “Peridot” and one coat of Seche Vite top coat.

I like adding a top coat before I water-marble because it really defines the design. This is especially important when the colors are so similar.

I used Orly “Bonder” and Zoya “Goldie” for the water-marble. Bonder spreads more evenly and thinly than the top coat I was using and does not dry as quickly.

I finished with one coat of INM “Northern Lights.

I practiced my black and white manicure for two days. Whenever I think B&W, I think water-marbling. It just seems the best way to incorporate both colors in a fun and different manner. I love water-marbling but I just do not seem to get a good handle on it.

Thankfully, I stumbled across a great tutorial by Mucking Fusser who’s finished marblings look beautiful! The trick I got from her was to use a clear coat so that the colors do not mix in the water.

I decided to add a little colored glitter just because I love color!

Black and White and a little Color

Bases:

Pinky Finger: Three coats of Urban Decay “Creep”; one generous coat of Seche Vite (to bring out shine).

Middle & Ring Finger: Two coats of China Glaze “White on White”.

Index Finger: One coat of Milani High Speed Fast Dry “Black Swift”.

Index Finger: I added three coats of Milani “Sprinkles” and then one coat of Cult Nails “Wax That”.

Middle Finger: I added two coats of Nails Inc London Sprinkles “Sweets Way”.

Ring Finger: I water-marbled Wet n Wild “Black Creme” and Seche Vite top coat. I added one coat of INM “Northern Lights”.

Nail Art: When I Was a Child…

Essie, freehand, Nail Art, Seche Vite, Urban Outfitters, Wet n Wild, Zoya

When I was a child, I loved art-related activities. One of my all time favorites was ScratchArt.

Do you remember ScratchArt? A black waxy substance covered a multi-colored piece of paper. You scratched away the wax coating to show the colors underneath.

I decided to try doing a ScratchArt-inspired nail art.

ScratchArt

This nail art was tricky. It was important that each layer of nail polish dried completely or the colors got muddy.

I started with two coats of Essie “Blanc”. I added Seche Vite top coat. I did this so I would not rub down to bare nail.

I applied two coats of Zoya “Reece”, “Crystal”, “Goldie” and Urban Outfitters “Blue Velvet”. Urban Outfitters is so pigmented I only used one coat.

I ended with two coats of Wet n Wild “Black Creme”.

I used Q-tips soaked in nail polish remover to gently rub away the polishes. I used an upward stroke towards the tip of the nail. I did not rub the Q-Tip back and forth because the colors mix together.

I used fresh Q-tips for every two or three swipes to get sharp color contrast. They needed to be totally soaked in polish remover or the colors mix.

Did you ever use ScratchArt as a kid?

Nail Art: Bright Lights in the Tunnel

Essie, freehand, INM, Milani, Nail Art, OPI, Seche Vite, Urban Outfitters

I have been overwhelmingly low recently so I have not prepared any posts. I finally got myself to paint my nails. I decided to go bright colors in hopes that I might feel better.

I started with two coats of Essie “Blanc”. I then used the cling-wrap method to splotch the colors on top. For the colors I used Urban Outfitters “Westside”, Milani “Peacock”,  and OPI “Red Lights Ahead…Where?”. I alternated adding the colors in dots and stripes just to see if the effect would be different. It splotched the same.

Bright Cling-Wrap Mani

I let the colors dry for about 30 seconds before adding a very thin layer of butter London “Knackered”. I cling-wrapped lightly. It added a little shimmer without being too overwhelming. It is a very sheer color so it did not affect the colors underneath. I finished the look with a coat of Seche Vite Top Coat which softened the look and then added a coat of INM Northern Lights Holographic Top Coat. It is an amazing glitter top coat. The shimmer is very sparse and subtle. It adds a little finishing touch.

butter London, CND, Essie, galaxy, Nail Art, Revlon, Seche Vite, SpaRitual, Wet n Wild, Zoya

I’m going to try and climb tomorrow so I decided not to go hog-wild with my nail art today. Also, I went for a hike with my dog and I was exhausted by the time I got home.

I tried the galaxy nail art a few weeks ago and I really liked how it came out, so I decided to try it again to see if I could get the same results.

The polishes I used: CND – Stickey base coat, two coats of Essie – Power Clutch, SpaRitual – Running with Wolves, Zoya – Goldie, butter London – Knackered, Wet n Wild – Blue Moon, Revlon – 902 Celestial FX, and Seche Vite top coat.

Straight On

Once the base coat and base color dried I tore three small pieces from a foundation sponge and, with a pair of tweezers, sponged the SpaRitual, Zoya, and butter London polishes in diagonals across the nail.

I used a toothpick to splotch-dot Wet n Wild.

I used an eyeshadow sponge-tipped applicator to apply one star from the Revlon polish.

Topped all nails with Seche Vite which has a great shine!

Galaxy Accent

Unfortunately, today was one of those days when my fingers “stuck” in certain positions when I was removing the old enamel, and using the brushes to paint the polish. I am currently at 10mg of prednisone and while I feel like I am just getting by and I could feel a little better, I’d rather not increase the dosage.
