Bubblies Under the Sea with Born Pretty Store

Some items provided for review.

A while ago I attempted the recently popular bubble nail art technique. You know, the one where you paint a blob on your nail, let it set for a few seconds, then absorb the middle pigment with a dry Q-tip? Well, the result turned out worse than when I tried the blobbicure so when I saw these neat bubble water decals on the Born Pretty Store website I did not even think twice about grabbing them. Get the same look without the hassle and stress? Can someone shout “RA-friendly”!

I had no complaints with these particular decals. They separated well from the backing paper. The decals are thin but sturdy and did not flip or crumple while I worked with them.

I could not decide between holo top coat or a matte one so I used both! This is definitely a simple look but I really dig it! I hope you do too!

Bubbly Water Decals Nail Art | The Rite of AgingBases: China Glaze UV Meant to Be, Glitter Gal Bluemerang over SinfulColors Whiteboard. I am not very keen on the Glitter Gal polishes. They were on sale at LLarowe for $1.50 and it appears they were for good reason. Bluemerang is extremely sheer and difficult to build to opacity. For my own sanity I applied two coats over Whiteboard.

Everything is topped with INM Northern Lights Silver and Essie Matte About You.

Decals: Born Pretty Store (one sheet retails for $1.64 here)

A Very Barry M Watermarble Nail Art

I was in a watermarble mood today but could not decide on what colors or designs to use!

I practiced with a few different combinations, colors and brands before landing on the one below. Some of the polishes did not behave, some did not work well together or spread properly, and some of the color combinations were just weird! After some trial and error I decided on my trusty Barry Ms which I may or may not have purchased in certain colors just for marbles!

I am pretty pleased with how this look came out but I do want your opinions. Is the holo top coat a little too much? Should I have left well enough alone? What do you think?

I love doing freehand fire nails. There is something really fun about them and because of this reason alone I decided to paint today’s flames!

I would definitely consider these RA-friendly. Even though I had to wield an artist’s brush I did not have to be too precise with the detail work! A win for RA-ridden hands!

Happy 4th!

Last year I won on week of Bundle Monster’s birthday month nail art challenge and one of the toppers they sent me contained a patriotic mix of glitters. I never used it so I was excited to pull the bottle from the back of the cabinet and dust it off.

Unfortunately, I felt just freaking awful from last week so I only had the energy for one accent nail per hand. My other nails felt left out, though, so I dressed them up with a holographic top coat to reflect the night sky!

Are you doing anything fun for the 4th? If I feel up to it I’ll head over to a neighbor’s house for a BBQ dinner! Thankfully, it is literally five steps away from my own home, which is probably the only amount of exercise I can manage at the moment!

Water-Spotting Nail Art: Sky Blue Royal Purple

I have not painted my nails in almost a week! What is this? I just have not been in the mood really. What with Saachi’s recovery, my own flare and not being in the right mindset. I considered muddling through and forcing myself to paint my nails but I didn’t want my hobby to become a chore! What nail artist wants that??

Today I have an easy-going water-spotted nail art! It only took 30 minutes to complete it! On top of that, I was constantly amazed how quickly and easily this Emily de Molly polish cleaned up with acetone (even with the glitter pieces)!

I hope you like it!

Blue and Purple Splatter Nail ArtI started with 3 coats of Emily de Molly Candy Coated. I managed to get my hands on this polish during a Llarowe sale! I am not going to even lie: I always scroll through the sales page. I managed to get a Picture Polish lacquer once!!…Which is neither here nor there in this post but I thought I’d share anyways! 🙂

I “water-spotted” with hairspray, Revlon Parfumerie Fresh Linen and Zoya Haven. I had this image in my mind of the final result. I should have used an opaque white instead of Fresh Linen because the sheerness makes the base look thin in some spots. I promise that is not Candy Coated but Fresh Linen.

I protected the design with Seche Vite before applying a nice coat of INM Northern Lights Silver. Speaking of which, are they no longer selling the Gold counterpart? I use it for certain color combinations and recently ran out but can’t find it anywhere!

Nail Art: Colder Days

The temperature dropped 30 degrees within an hour this afternoon. Okay, maybe not 30 degrees but it certainly felt like it. By the time I returned home from work I moved like the tin man and needed oil for all my joints. I hope this is not an omen for winter months to come!

In honor of the frozen ground this morning I decided to pull out my trusted snowflake stamp! I love how this manicure came out…I love how the sparkle is mostly concentrated at the cuticle since the Zoya polish was spiked with holographic glitter!

I hope you like it!

colder daysI started with 2 coats of Milani Power Periwinkle as my base.

I used a makeup sponge, Milani Power Periwinkle, Sally Hansen Blue My Mind (okay, this is going to sound odd but to anyone who owns this polish…is it just me or does it smell like pot?!) and Zoya Dream for the gradient.

I stamped with Bundle Monster plate BM 319, Konad Special Polish White, and Essie No Place Like Chrome. I sealed the design with Seche Vite before applying a generous coat of INM Northern Lights in Silver.

NAIL (October 2014) – Week One: Splatter

Check the sidebar for more information.

The first NAIL prompt for October is splatter-painting! Splatter is one of my favorite techniques. It is fun (who doesn’t like getting messy?), abstract, and RA-friendly!

In honor of October, I used Halloween colors. I really like the final effect but I do not like this orange. It is too yellow and dulls the white base underneath. It also stains the skin like mad. I should have used my trusty Wham! Pow! but I am running low so I used this Zoya polish instead. Oh well, I learned my lesson for next time.

I hope you like it!

NAIL October week one: splatterI started with 2 coats of the Julie G White Orchid and Serum No. 5 Happy Special Day as my base.

I splattered with Zoya Gwin and  Milani Black Swift.

I sealed the detailing with Seche Vite before adding a generous coat of INM Northern Lights. I noticed however long I wait the Milani polish always smears which is a bummer because I love this polish otherwise.
