It just would not be a complete season without a sugar-spun manicure on this blog, right? Tonight I sat down to do a water marble but I could not get the polishes to spread in the water properly so I resorted to sugar-spinning. Okay, sugar-spinning is never a next resort on this blog but it was not initially what I wanted to do.

I hope you like it!

fall sugar spunI started with three coats of butter London Tea with the Queen as my base. I really should get rid of this polish. Even underneath the sugar spun I absolutely hate how looks. I really do not know why keep using it.

I sugar spun with Milani Dark Coffee, SpaRitual Running with Wolves and Zoya Goldie.

I am not going to lie I’m super excited Halloween is over. As you know I’m not the biggest fan of this “holiday” and always feel pretty uninspired when it comes to nail art. Even though it is November, I cannot wait to get started on my December themed nail art. Prepare yourself for snowflakes, snow globes, whimsy and overall good cheer!

Winter is an interesting season for me. It is my favorite time of year but with the RA it is also a very difficult time of year. I choose to focus on the “favorite”.

I am itching to start my holiday nail art but I should pay tribute to Thanksgiving and fall so today I have a simple nonuniform dotticure for you. I hope you like it!

Fall Dotticure | The Rite of AgingI started with two coats of SpaRitual Howl as my base.

I used butter London Tea with the Queen, China Glaze Sun Worshiper, and OPI Pros and Bronze for the detailing.

Bundle Monster, Color Club, Oh Mon Dieu challenge, SpaRitual, stamping

Check out the sidebar for more information!

I wanted to make a stamping decal but the SpaRitual polish stamped a little sheer. I just noticed my last few manicures have been green. I guess I am on a green kick right now!

I hope you like my simple but cute tortoiseshell manicure.

DSCF0336_fotorI used 2 coats of Color Club Pucci-licious as my base.

I stamped with SpaRitual Howl and Bundle Monster plate BM 313. I had to paint in a few of the spots where the stamp did not stick, hopefully you cannot really notice!

I love love love how this came out! Clean up was a little messy so apologies on that…but the green polishes do not want to budge 😦

Even though I was going for a Christmas-y color palette, this kind of reminds me of galaxies!

Image

I used two coats Julie G White Orchid as my base.

I “water-colored” on top with:

  • Zoya Suvi, Giovanna
  • SpaRitual Running with Wolves, Howl

I then water-marbled with:

  • Milani Black Cherry
  • Orly Bonder
  • Essie Naughty Nautical

I finished with 1 coat Seche Vite and 1 coat INM Northern Lights.

Urban Decay Naked Polish “Smog” vs. SpaRitual “Running with Wolves”

It is no surprise that my favorite nail polish from the Urban Decay Naked Nail Polish set is “Smog”. It so happens to be my everyday color from the Naked I eyeshadow Palette.

I am sure I am not the only person who wishes Urban Decay made these polishes full size. Until they do, however, I will continue to search for a passable dupe.

ALL PICTURES TAKEN WITHOUT TOP COAT.

Index, Middle & Pinky fingers: Urban Decay Smog

Ring finger: SpaRitual Running with Wolves

Image

Smog has a dependable formula. It does not streak and it has a great consistency. I reach opacity with one coat but for a richer color I use two. It is a heavenly brownish-red with gold shimmer. I may dare to say it has duo chromatic tendencies because in certain lights it appears purplish-brown. I love this color because it does not wash me out as most browns do.

Image

SpaRitual Running with Wolves is a bright copper with gold tones.  I reach full opacity with one coat but for fuller color I use two. It has a fantastic formula. It is a little thick but easy to work with. It applies smoothly and does not streak. The finish is very shiny.

Image

In some lights, both polishes look almost the same. Running with Wolves is warmer and brighter than Smog. The shimmer is more noticeable in Smog than in Running with Wolves.

The finish on both polishes is shiny, however, Running with Wolves dries a little glossier.

I really enjoy both colors. I like Smog just a little better. Running with Wolves is a great golden brown but I prefer the more muted tone. Brighter browns tend to make my skin look dull.

Overall, I think the polishes are quite different. Regardless, Running with Wolves passes my dupe test for Smog.

Short and Sweet in Texas is holding a Halloween Nail Art contest and I decided to submit a picture!

I am so excited about this because I incorporated the marbling and sugar-spun techniques. Spiders terrify me so after I finished taking pictures I just ignored my thumb.

I hope you enjoy it and please vote for my submission. I believe it is the 3rd picture in the album.

Bases:

Ring: Color Club “Wham! Pow!”

All others: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear “White On” covered by butter London “Knackered”

Detailing:

Water-Marble: Orly “Bonder”; Wet n Wild “Black Creme”

Sugar-Spin: Essie “No Place Like Chrome”; SpaRitual “Bismuth”

Free-hand Spider and Web: Milani “Black Swift”, Essie “No Place Like Chrome”, SpaRitual “Bismuth”

The bat was a water decal purchased from the Born Pretty Store. I am not sure if I applied it correctly because the sticker came off white.

31DC2013 Day 27: Inspired by Artwork

#31DC2013, Color Club, Cult Nails, freehand, Milani, Nail Art, Seche Vite, SpaRitual

I dreaded this prompt especially when my hand tremors returned. There was no way I could do any art piece justice.

Thankfully, I remembered reading about the Picasso Swirl technique:

http://www.glamour.com/beauty/2013/02/14-nail-art-looks-we-loved-from-nyfw?mbid=nl_beautytips#slide=13

I am sort of cheating a little since I did not re-create the painting but I choose to think I am following the very loose translation of “Inspired by…” 😛

I used the color palette from “Houses on Hills”.

I used two coats of Milani “Mint Candy” as my base. I then applied Seche Vite top coat to protect the base color.

On each nail, I applied one to two different sized drops of each color.

I used a toothpick to swirl SpaRitual “Running with Wolves”, Cult Nails “Feel Me Up”, Color Club “Twiggie”, and Milani “Quick Teal”.

I did not use top coat because the swirls look like dried paint on a canvas.
