OMD3 – Polka Dot Dottilism Nail Art

I went through a huge dotillism phase back in high school. I even decorated all my graduation invitations with dots (which PS. took a good few months!) Then, I went to college and never found the time.

Recently, dotillism has sky-rocketed into popular culture, especially in the nail art world, and I thought I would re-visit it. While my students were working on their comic books during summer camp I doodled and dotted while I waited to check their work. I even got   some of them into it!

After yesterday’s nail art debacle I sat down, focused and FORCED MYSELF TO GET THIS DONE. There is room for improvement since this is my first attempt at true dotillism on my nails but I am seriously digging the end result.

Disclaimer: This is not RA-friendly.

I hope you like it!

Oh Mon Dieu…I can’t today. I just can’t.

It was one of those days. I felt less sick but the pain was replaced by brain fog. I restarted my nails three times. My hands shook up the wazoo, I was almost too weak to hold the brushes, I couldn’t focus my magnifying lamp properly and I dropped paint all over my pants!

I am also very sorry the photo is kind of meh. I just couldn’t take a proper picture with my wobbly hands.

And, now that I have vented!…

I really like the colors I used for the “waterfall”. I love blues and ombre color combinations so why not put them together!

Today’s look works for OMD3 and Wiki’d It! I’ve dropped the ball on the Wiki Challenge. It is intense and sometimes I did not feel particularly inspired. However, this week’s page was about King Midas! I thought the lightning bolts would be a fun touch since Midas is portrayed as a supernatural legend.

I like this look. Black and gold go well together and there is only one design. I do not know if my simple designs phase is driven by my recent flares but I am not complaining because I am really digging them!

I hope you do too!

Happy 4th!

Last year I won on week of Bundle Monster’s birthday month nail art challenge and one of the toppers they sent me contained a patriotic mix of glitters. I never used it so I was excited to pull the bottle from the back of the cabinet and dust it off.

Unfortunately, I felt just freaking awful from last week so I only had the energy for one accent nail per hand. My other nails felt left out, though, so I dressed them up with a holographic top coat to reflect the night sky!

Are you doing anything fun for the 4th? If I feel up to it I’ll head over to a neighbor’s house for a BBQ dinner! Thankfully, it is literally five steps away from my own home, which is probably the only amount of exercise I can manage at the moment!

Let me start by saying how glad I am I got some of these prompts out of the way! I forgot to take my medications after lunch and am paying the price now. I couldn’t even use a fork, let alone paint my nails!

I did a few looks last week so I forgot which belonged to each day. It was not until today that I realized I had two glitter gradients back to back! Oops! It’s okay, though, I can never have enough glitter gradients (unless, of course, I am going through my ‘I hate glitter’ phase)!

At first, I had glitter gradient accent nails and dark blue stamping but the look did not mesh together well. I asked my dad before I took pictures and he agreed it so I nixed the dark blue. Sometimes, simpler is definitely better!

For today’s peach prompt I pulled out my trusted Westside. This was the first Urban Outfitters polish I bought and it is almost completely gone. I bought a Rimmel dupe but the formula cannot even pretend to match up. Westside (and UO’s Blue Velvet) are my most used polishes of all time!

Urban Outfitters cream polishes are surprisingly awesome and for $4 a pop they are easy to stock up on. I haven’t been to the store in a while but I think I’ll stop by soon since I am about to completely run out of my favorite colors!

Peach polish is one of my favorites but I only really wear it during the spring and summer because look how tan my hand is! As much as I love this color, though, it is a bear to photograph. I managed a great picture of the glitter gradient but couldn’t focus properly on the stamping. Ah well, you win some, you lose some.

Eek!! I am so excited about this year’s Oh Mon Dieu! This awesome challenge is brought to us by the lovely ladies who also organize the monthly Nail Art Ideas Linkup. Jacqui (from Craftynail), Lindsay (from Nail that Accent!), Jemma (from Eeeek! Nail Polish!) and Brijit (from Brijit’s Digits) work so hard to bring together nail enthusiasts from all over the world. The NAIL linkup was the first community I joined when I first started blogging two years ago and I have participated ever since.

I participated in my first OMD challenge last July and it pushed me to my limits! Not only did I post once a day but I attempted at least three or four techniques I never thought I would touch with a ten foot pole!

These girls have a knack of bringing out the real creative side of the nail junkies without imposing a ton of rules but still providing guidelines so we are not completely lost!

The first prompt is teal! Okay, first, let me say, I could not find any of my teal polishes! The one I wanted to use was an old Milani polish I finally parted with. It was such a beautiful polish. I am slowly but surely moving through my old Milanis and I feel absolutely gutted every time I use them. I knew our relationship would not last forever but I certainly wish it did!

I am starting out nice and easy and RA-friendly with a cute, neon glitter gradient and some simple stamping! Hope you like it!
