Sugarspun and Splatter Manicure for Challenge Your Nail Art

I wanted to do a green manicure given it are opposite red on the color wheel. Everyone did dark, vampy heartbreaks for the Anti-Valentine’s prompt and I wanted to explore the opposite direction. But, I didn’t want to sugarspin greens so I jumped on the bandwagon and stayed with the similar.

I wanted to stamp hearts on top of the blood splatter but I kind of really liked the splatter on it’s own! I hope you like it.

Sugarspun and Splatter Manicure | The Rite of AgingI started with 2 coats of Barry M Gelly Chai as my base.

I sugar spun with OPI Lincoln Park After Dark and Zoya Anais.

I splattered with Sephora by OPI Mr. Right Now.

Watermarble and Stamping for Challenge Your Nail Art

I wanted to come back to the love letters prompt for this month’s Challenge Your Nail Art. While I do not do the gushy, romantic stuff of film and book I wanted to use the Pueen stamping plates I would not generally use at any other time of year!

I have to be honest, though, I do not like white nail polish. Not because of the consistency (which, okay, I have a problem with) but the color is so stark my camera does not photograph my skin tone well and the polish always muddies the others in the marble. It is a very annoying color.

Anyways, I hope you like my Love Letters nail art!

Watermarble and Stamping Valentine's Day Nail Art | The Rite of Aging

I started with Sinful Colors Snow Me White as my base.

I marbled with Barry M Grapefruit, Rhossili and Sinful Colors Snow Me White.

I stamped with Barry M Matte Rhossili and Pueen Cosmetics plate PUEEN 43 from the Love Elements collection.

Dotticure for Challenge Your Nail Art

I had this cool idea to do a dotticure, top coat it, then saran-wrap black on top. I think it might have looked really cool but when I actually finished the base, I did not want to cover it up at all! I used varying red and pinks but the finished look kind of reminds me of chocolates, somehow!

So…for the fourth prompt of this month’s Challenge Your Nail Art…I present my Valentine’s Day dotticure!

I hope you like it!

Valentine's Day Dotticure | The Rite of Aging

I started with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Petal Pusher as my base.

I dotted with OPI Lincoln Park After Dark, Dance Legend 373, Barry M Gelly Grapefruit and Milani (new) Spotlight White.

These challenges just creep right on up and if I miss one prompt I cannot catch up! Since I missed the first couple of days, I decided to lump them together: my favorite technique plus my current favorite technique in my favorite colors. How many times can I use “favorite” in one sentence??

I hope you like it!!

Favorite Techniques Watermarble and Sugar-Spun | The Rite of AgingSince there is a lot of polish on these nails I am just going to list them:

Icy Blue Watermarble Nail Art

I have been so lucky the last couple of weeks. It has not rained except at night and while some evenings were frigidly cold, Saachi moved quickly in the elimination department so it didn’t really affect me. Yesterday night it iced and everything froze overnight…but no snow…I like snow…

After yesterday’s watermarble success I sustained my marble high and decided to try the technique again! It came out differently but I am pleased with it. The polishes spread really sheer and looked similar in the water. I honestly just threw caution to the wind when making my designs, heh!

I hope you like it!

Icy Blue Watermarble | The Rite of AgingI started with a messy, sheer coat of Milani Power Periwinkle.

I marbled with Milani Power Periwinkle, Barry M Gelly Chai, and Emily de Molly Candy Coated. These all spread really well together!!

I stamped with butter London Cotton Buds and MoYou London plate 02 from the Festive Collection.

Green Water-Marble Nail Art

After seeing Colette from My Simple Little Pleasure’s latest watermarble YT video (channel linked here) I was inspired to marble myself! And I am so happy I did!

Everything went right with this manicure even the picture!…I wanted to add something extra but was terrified I was going to just butcher it…and then even the dots looked exactly as I pictured them! I kind of wish I had placed the dots on the next curve down, on my index finger, but that is just me getting nit-picky…heh!

I hope you like it!

Green Watermarble | The Rite of Aging

I started with 1 coat of Sephora by OPI It’s Totally Karma. Funnily enough, I did not use this polish in the marble.

I marbled with Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy High Stakes, American Apparel Neon Green and Barry M Gelly Key Lime.

I used a small dotting tool and Nfu Oh Nfu 51.

Born Pretty Store: Large Stamping Plate Review

I have another stamping plate review for you! This time it is BP-L004 from the Born Pretty Store.

BPS plates 35, L-5, L-4 - Version 3-001Image links directly to product details.

As you can see there are some great images on here! Very abstract and right down my stamping alley! The large rectangular plates comes with 21 images which are not particularly related to one another. I don’t have any problem with this as it gives me more variety per plate and numerous stamping possibilities! If you don’t like this particular plate, definitely check out the other plates here.

Thoughts:

I had a lot more luck with the plate than the previous I reviewed here. Most of the images transferred well to the stamper and then to the nail. However, I did have a lot of trouble scraping the polish. I don’t know if it was me or the plate but my scraper kept getting caught on the designs. Also, it didn’t scrape all the polish properly so I ended up with smeared pictures on my stamper. Now, on other plates…if I don’t necessarily scrape all the polish I can still end up with a crisp image. Unfortunately with this BPS plate, I ended up with a lot of pooling.

Below I outlined the images I had the most trouble with (by trouble, I mean the difficulty with scraping).

I personally love stamping, and now that I have practiced more and honed my technique I enjoy it a lot more! But, I know stamping is not everyone’s cup of tea so definitely check out BPS’ other nail art supplies here.

Born Pretty Store ships free internationally and their prices are super low. The above plate only costs $5.99! If you are interested in placing an order with them don’t forget to apply my 10% off coupon code below!
