I took part in the first prompt so it is fitting I took part in the last! I kept up with everyone’s looks but did not participate myself. This challenge was exceptionally hard and every week I told myself I would attempt it. Before I knew it we were at the following week, fast forward to the end of the challenge and here we are!

This week’s Wikipedia article is “horror icon” (linked here). There are so many horror icons to choose from but in  the end I decided on Dracula. In high school, I wrote a whole term paper on the book and thought it was the most fascinating story I had ever read. It also doesn’t hurt that I wanted to try the drip art technique!

…I kind  of wish I hadn’t top coated the paint, it looked so much more like blood before! Ah well, I still like it :)…hope you do too!

I don’t even want to talk about this one. I had this great idea and unfortunately execution of said idea was less than ideal. However, I am happy I tried it…and I think with a little practice I can definitely get the look I’m after!

I was actually on top of the fish prompt but I attempted the look twice and both  looked horrendous. I was already very tired that evening so I lost all motivation to continue.

I had so many cute stamps I wanted to use and every time I stamped (yes, I mean every FINGER) the image looked different and warped. I just couldn’t do it. I shrugged and said ‘I’ll try them again on the weekend’. Well, the weekend is here and I thought, “obviously I cannot stamp so I might as well do something else”. These freehand fishes aren’t super intricate but I think they are kind of cute!

Hope you like it!

Well hello everyone!! I was really scared about today’s prompt! I have never attempted watermelon nails so the first idea that came to mind was to freehand them. Nothing new here but I chickened out!

I was so unsure about today’s nails I took to Instagram and searched hashtag “watermelon nails”. I ran across a matte gradient by IG@b_jessica_3 and knew immediately I had to re-create that look. I decided not to matte the final result or add seeds. I wanted to, but in the end decided to leave well enough alone. It might have looked alright but I think given how soft, blurred and pastel the colors are stark harsh dark seeds would look really odd!

In real life the pink is a lot more prominent but unfortunately, we know my track record with photographing whites. I tweaked my hand position a little to capture the pink a little more but it still came out a bit wonky…

Hope you like it!

OMD3 – Pattern

Patterns…What are patterns? They are recurrent shapes or lines of any colors. That means I can do absolutely anything with this prompt. Initially, I wanted to stamp but I stared at every single “pattern” and had no idea what to do with it!

So, I back peddled a little and went with quick and easy dots. I don’t know if it technically counts as a pattern as it doesn’t repeat on each nail…but it is the same across the hand…so, it’s a pattern, right??

Oh Mon Dieu…I can’t today. I just can’t.

It was one of those days. I felt less sick but the pain was replaced by brain fog. I restarted my nails three times. My hands shook up the wazoo, I was almost too weak to hold the brushes, I couldn’t focus my magnifying lamp properly and I dropped paint all over my pants!

I am also very sorry the photo is kind of meh. I just couldn’t take a proper picture with my wobbly hands.

And, now that I have vented!…

I really like the colors I used for the “waterfall”. I love blues and ombre color combinations so why not put them together!

Born Pretty Store Review: Brown Hair Fanned Nail Art Brush

Provided for review.

I have a different type of item for review today: a fan brush! I do not own any fan brushes even though the nail art created with them is one of my favorite looks. For the longest time I settled for the distressed look but now I can do both!

I received this fan brush from the Born Pretty Store. I was so excited for the reasons above and I started playing with the brush the same day it arrived in the mail. It is a relatively small fan-shaped brush (perfect for my small nails). The bristles are light brown, dyed dark at the tips. The dark brown makes the ends distinguishable and easy to use. As usual, the photo below links to the product.

Born Pretty Store Fan Brush | The Rite of AgingUnfortunately, my excitement ended there. The bristles frayed after the first use and became kinked at the tips. I know some brushes do not hold up after a pure acetone rinse but my first use was with acrylic paint and plain water.

I was nervous to use the the brush with nail polish. Turns out, for good reason, acetone destroyed the bristles even more. I still use the brush but the frayed bits drag on the nail and it’s very difficult to get a crisp look.

I eventually achieved the look I wanted but it was headache. The polish dried quickly, the bristles clumped and dragged across the nail (as seen in the second picture).

Overally, I expected better from the synthetic bristles and in this instance you get what you pay for. This brush retails for $2.98 on the BPS website however, the site stocks other fan brushes so I might check those out instead. But, if you want a basic brush which you don’t mind trimming down this might be an option. It is cheap and gets the job done, especially with acrylic paints.

And, don’t forget, if you place an order feel free to use my 10% off code below!
