Oh Mon Dieu…I can’t today. I just can’t.

It was one of those days. I felt less sick but the pain was replaced by brain fog. I restarted my nails three times. My hands shook up the wazoo, I was almost too weak to hold the brushes, I couldn’t focus my magnifying lamp properly and I dropped paint all over my pants!

I am also very sorry the photo is kind of meh. I just couldn’t take a proper picture with my wobbly hands.

And, now that I have vented!…

I really like the colors I used for the “waterfall”. I love blues and ombre color combinations so why not put them together!

We have a new set of prompts for the challenge Your Nail Art group on Facebook! Unfortunately, I am at a complete loss for them. I am not into sci-fi except for Star Trek and there, I am a total Trekkie (by the way, can I say how happy it makes me that the word “Trekkie” is part of the Dragon Dictate library??). I hope I end up with a stroke of inspiration but I think I may have to sit out this month. But, the idea for today’s prompt came to me at 10 PM so who knows!

Initially, I stretched the prompt to space TV shows, namely Star Trek, when I realized there were plenty of Star Trek movies! And, this would be the perfect time to use my Fab Ur Nails plate…which I may have only bought because of the command badge…anyways…

I hope you like it!

Star Trek Badge | The Rite of AgingI started with Wet n Wild Black Creme as my base.

On my index and pinky nails I applied Zoya Pixie Dust Imogen.

On my middle and ring nails I applied a generous coat of Glitter Gal Galaxy Holo Top Coat. (heh, how fitting!) *Just a note on this polish — it dries semi-matte but seriously shimmers with top coat)

I stamped with Color Club On the Rocks.

A new Facebook challenge started this week! It is part of the same group who participated in the A2Z Series. A2Z is over so we are diving into WIKIPEDIA! I am super excited for this challenge. I love the Random page Wikipedia game so I am completely onboard with a challenge based around it! This week’s prompt is tattoos…

Many moons ago, let’s say, 12-13 years, my father brought back some temporary water tattoos from India. Many were the typical Indian designs and very authentic. I never had an occasion to wear them but they were too pretty to throw away so they stayed in a dark drawer..until yesterday!

Temporary tattoos are hot at the moment; especially on the bohemian festival circuit. When I saw this week’s prompt my mind jumped to these old decals! Why not use them in nail art??

I am pretty pleased with how these came out! The tattoos applied much better than I anticipated. There were some bald spots  but they were barely noticeable because of the metallic sheen.

I hope you like it!

Indian Water Decals Nail Art | The Rite of AgingI used Essie Mademoiselle and top coat as my base and waited for them to dry completely.

I applied different parts of the decal to my nails by placing the sheet face down and holding it in place with a water-soaked cotton ball.

Yay YouTube! I was inspired by another tutorial, this time by cutepolish!

I know chocolate-drizzled strawberry nails are not new but cutepolish’s video was my most recent inspiration! And how the heck could I say no to a sugar-spin, right???

I’m kind of in a funk right now so I think I will be finding inspiration from others for a while.

I hope you like it! I definitely love the sugar-spin! Hehe…do I ever not love sugar-spin?

Chocolate Drizzle #sugarspin Strawberry #nailart | The Rite of Aging

I started with Wet n Wild Red a Good Book.

I detailed the strawberries with yellow acrylic paint, light and dark green acrylics and sealed it with Seche Vite.

I mixed Milani Spotlight White and Barry M Lychee to create my “white chocolate drizzle”.

I am slowly catching up with the linkups I participate in! I missed out on the gold prompt from a couple of weeks ago but since I had a few gold polishes I neglect otherwise I wanted to jump in, even if my submission was really, really late!

I feel bad for my textured polishes. I only ever use them for challenge prompts. I love other 3D nail art (cough, sugar-spun, cough) but I can’t handle good old textured polishes. I guess there is something about the type of texture? Maybe it is too gritty.

I could go on and on about my quirks but let’s get on with the nail art! I like how this came out: simple, fast and RA-friendly…Perfect during this time of stress and fatigue!

But what about you…Do you have any of these eccentricities? Do you like ketchup but not tomatoes? Comment below!

Gold Glitter Nail Art | The Rite of AgingI used Julie G Gift of Gold as a base on my middle and ring finger. I used to coats of Barry M Mustard on the index and pinky finger.

I used a makeup sponge and KBShimmer Sand in My Stocking on the tips.

Plastic Bag Marble Nail Art for NAIL and Red Coat Tuesdays

It is funny how inspiration strikes. The last February NAIL prompt was for our least favorite polish. The newest Milani white (Spotlight White) and butter London nude (Tea with the Queen) both made the short list but I could not think of a good nail art with them!…and then it hit me…my Wet n Wild red. I’ve mentioned I don’t like this polish: formula, brush and all…but, for whatever reason, it did not make my original list.

So, why use it? There is a group of bloggers who take part in Red Coat Tuesdays in honor of Pretty Little Liars. I always wanted to take part but never actually created a manicure for the linkup. I am obsessed with this show but even though I love it I have serious issues concerning it. There is too much going on: too many characters, too many plot lines. I tune in every week but this season is seriously lacking. I lean towards colder side of lukewarm because each episode feels like a filler biding its time until the finale.

As excited I am the show was green-lighted for a seventh season (even before this past season aired) I honestly don’t know what else they can do. They are just dragging out everything and it’s getting boring. They just need to tell us who A is, who is torturing the girls, and WHY? I don’t think they ever told us.

Why did they randomly stop thinking Ezra was “A”? (I still think he is just because being A is a very expensive habit and he is the only one who has access to the funds).

Anyways, on to the nail art! I decided to do something simple, RA-friendly and abstract. This is my first attempt at plastic bag marbling. There are a couple of ways to do it, either apply the dots directly to the nail or marble on the bag and transfer the design.

I decided to try the latter. I continued to splotch and mash until I was happy with the final design. I hope you like it!

Dry Marble - Red Coat Tuesday | The Rite of Aging

Plastic Bag Marble Nail Art - Red Coat Tuesday | The Rite of AgingI started with 2 coats of Wet n Wild Red a Good Book as my base.

I marbled with Wet n Wild, OPI Red Lights Ahead…Where?, Essie No Place Like Chrome, Zoya Goldie, and Barry M Gelly Chili.

September/October Favorites Showcase

Each photo links back to original post

I did not do a September favorites so I decided to combine the two months! If you remember I spent three weeks of September asleep, when I woke up I spent another week beating myself up for being asleep for three weeks. Yes, I know it’s not my fault I was so fatigued but I still felt like I wasted away three weeks of my life. That being said I fell behind with my blogs and could not get through them quickly enough to do a favorites last month. Check out my two Pinterest boards (here – Sept.) and (here – Oct.)

more nail polish - sept. favoritesI have a soft spot for galaxy nails and for cats so it really is no surprise that I fell in love with these More Nail Polish nails she did for the 31 day challenge. The color scheme is awesome, the detailing is not muddy and the kitties are just plain cute. This actually reminded me strongly of a shirt Target sells on their website (linked here). Actually, this shirt has a very funny story.

At the climbing gym I work at there is a “free crap cubby”. People always chuck things in there for others to take. Well, this shirt ended up in there.  One of my coworkers said the shirt did not fit him so another one tried it. He argued it was also too small for him (which it wasn’t, but I guess guys are weird about how their shirts fit) so he hot potato-ed it. I jumped up and down gurgling “I want it! I want it!” trying to get my word in before another coworker did. Of course, I forgot to pick it up when I left for the day and she snagged it. I totally bought that shirt.

@debrasnailart - sept. favesI discovered Debra in the Challenge Your Nail Art group. Her freehand work is amazing.  The detailing and shading make me believe I am looking at a painting and I can tell what animals I’m looking at. Check out her Instagram, her manicures are awesome!

lacquerologist - sept. favesIt is probably no surprise I am a pet adoption advocate. It really guts me so many shelter animals are euthanized because of no better reason than space constraints. When I saw Emily’s manicure, it hit a soft spot. I love the simplicity of the two colors and wording. It says what it needs to say without becoming crowded. And the shimmer of the base just says “hope” to me.

chalkboard nails - oct. favesI am always in awe of Sarah’s manicures but I especially love her simpler ones. This is abstract, easy to do, and I can mess around with the technique until I am happy with the finished product. It only requires two colors and acetone yet this nail art has so much depth.  Depending on the colors I use, this manicure is perfect for any time of year or for any occasion. I wanted to try this for the “villains” prompt earlier this week but my vampire bats won out.

fixin to faff - oct. favesI always love Ali’s manicures but I have a super soft spot for her plaid designs. The colors in this look work well together, the stamping is perfect and I’m in awe that she stamped with a holo polish. Ali’s pictures are always so cool since she holds a different prop and the lighting is flawless.

adventures in acetone - oct. favesI especially love the Jacki’s sponging for this look. I can’t get enough of that silver fading into the purple as a spider web gets bigger and, in theory, thinner. These two colors fade nicely together and the silver really pops on top of them. Regardless, it doesn’t clash since both the purple and gray appear to have silver shimmer running through them. I usually dislike anything with spiders or webs but this detailing is really cool.

31DC2014 - September 5: Blue | The Rite of AgingI generally would not include one of my manicures but this one is special. It was a double gradient that came out exactly the way I wanted it to and it received more than 100 likes on Instagram. Which I think is pretty cool and made me feel really awesome. Thank you everyone for sticking with me!

I hope you’ll like my favorites picks for the last couple of months. These of course are not the only favorites so don’t forget to check out the pinchers boards to see all of them.
