I have not done any true marbling recently and dread hitting the water again. After countless hours of practice I am at a point in water-marbling where I am consistently happy with the outcome. But, unfortunately, if I don’t use it, I lose it and I feel like I am starting from scratch!!

I eased myself back into the water nail art sports with the much simpler water-spotting technique and tried something I had wanted to for a long time: natural marble! I saran-ed the base then water-spotted the brown for a more natural look.

I hope you like it!

Starlight Saran-Wrap | Nail Art & Video Tutorial

Press sample.

Well, I have something exciting to show you today: my first ever nail art video!

I received a few Starlight collection polishes from Preen.Me and OPI as part of the PreenMeVIP program and they asked that everyone involved submit a couple of videos. I struggled for a good while with this. I really wanted to start making videos but I was still using my phone for photos and I was not too keen to use a borrowed dinosaur of a camera.

I bit the bullet and tried the regular point and shoot but since it did not want to cooperate I fell back on my phone. I lost a lot of quality through uploading and editing but I am really pleased with my first ever video!

I didn’t really expect this to go up on the web so I went with a nice, easy and simple saran-wrap look. After playing around with editing and filming I took the plunge and uploaded to YouTube!

I hope with practice and time my videos are going to get better! I will definitely have a sugar-spun tutorial up soon!

Blue Saran-Wrap and Water Decal Nail Art

Question: Would you prefer I separate my RA and nail art posts so if you are only interested in one or the other you don’t have to read both? I will provide links to and from each post.

I posted this on Instagram last night as I had some weird hip pain and struggled to find a comfortable typing position. Right now, I have no range of motion. I am in excruciating pain every time I move.

I’m not sure this is a flare. During my typical episode, I am painful throughout my body, I am nauseaous, tired, and fatigued. Today’s discomfort is acutely concentrated in my hip area and just when I move. I feel alert, hungry,  and in any other manner, great. I am struggling to move yet I want to. I don’t know why this is happening. I woke up in the morning and I felt great I was in no pain I climbed the stairs and all of a sudden it hit me during breakfast. My morning routine was the same.

But, before I get into the nail art…I’m going to quickly talk about how I clean the house.

I clean house on my days off from work. This way, I can “schedule” tasks around my high and low pain points. I mentioned in another post, my sweet spot for pain is about two hours after I take Tramadol and Tylenol. This would be when I start the heavier cleaning like vacuuming. I rarely ever start before this two hour mark.

Once I’ve finished vacuuming I take a nap.  I’m serious. Personally, Vacuuming takes the most effort and when I’m done I’m usually very tired. This is the perfect time for a nap. It’s okay though I have the entire day.  two hours is usually the longest I allow myself to sleep, otherwise I I cannot go to bed at night.

When I wake up, I eat and hydrate and finish by dusting. I use a Swiffer duster wand so with one quick swipe I’m all set. Laundry is for another day.

Now, onto the nail art! I decided to go with a blue cling wrap. I loved the marbelized water look. My new Chanel polish called to me so I centered the entire color palette around it. I needed to add more but a black decal would not show up. The pack of Pueen Cosmetics decals I bought came with an assortment of white ones as well. The last time I tried one it disintegrated while I removed it from the backing. I had low expectations of these flowers but they worked quite nicely.

I hope you like it!

Blue Marble Cling Wrap Nail Art | The Rite of Aging

Blue Marble Cling Wrap Nail Art | The Rite of AgingI started with 3 coats of Glitter Gal True Blue Aussie as my base. Llarowe was having a massive sale on this brand and I picked up a few on a whim. This dark blue polish was very squishy, almost jelly-like and dried very glossy. However, it pooled into my cuticles and stained them badly.

I bubble-wrapped with Chanel Mediterranée, Glitter Gal Bluemerang, and China Glaze UV Meant to Be.

Well hello there!

Why didn’t I think of cling wrap manicures before?? They are probably the most RA-friendly of all the nail art techniques. I drop the polish right onto the nail and use bubble-wrap (easiest to keep from nail mail) to create the look I want!

I finally jumped on the latex cleanup bandwagon and bought the Color4Nails Crystalline Nail Veil! At some point I would like to try Kiesque’s Liquid Palisade but decided to try the cheaper alternative first. The product came yesterday and I was so excited to use it! Why, oh why, did I not purchase this sooner?? We all know I gravitate towards messier nail art techniques. This should have been my first purchase. Ever. I cannot change the past so on to the present and future!

It took a while to apply the product and wait for it to dry; arguably just as long as acetone cleanup at the end. But, cleanup was so easy. I used tweezers to remove the product easily and with one swift motion.

This may not be the case for everyone but while I do not have a latex allergy it still dries out my skin. This isn’t a surprise as my hands do become very dry when I wear latex gloves. And, all things considered, my skin does not dry out as much as when I use pure acetone.

Below is the finished look. I hope you like it!

Nail Art: Shimmer-y Saran Wrap

Affliate Links.

For today’s nail art, I decided to go with a little shimmer cling wrap as I continue to ease my way into holiday manicures. I have so much fun with this technique. It is an easy way to get cute nail art without strain on my fingers or wrists and because it is abstract it does not have to look perfect which is some of its charm.

Of course, I could not leave well enough alone so I added some stamping. The stamping came out great but my trusty Seche Vite failed me! I thought I had waited long enough for the stamping to dry (about 15 minutes) but it still smeared the design! Oh well, it is pretty hard to tell in person.

I hope you like it!
shimmer clingwrapI started with two coats of Milani Spotlight White And one coat of Revlon Parfumerie Fresh Linen as my base.

I used bubble wrap, Essie No Place Like Chrome, and Julie G Peep Toe Pumps for the saran-wrap effect. I sealed everything with a coat of Seche Vite.

I stamped with Pueen plate PUEEN46 (from the Love Elements collection, linked [here]) and Konad Special Polish Black. I am seriously loving these Pueen plates. The images transfer well to the stamper and it always looks like my stamping is five times better than it actually is!

Halloween Nail Art Challenge – Day Three: Villains

Bundle Monster, butter London, Challenge Your Nail Art, freehand, Halloween, halloween nail art, Konad, Nail Art, rafriendlynailart, saran wrap, Seche Vite, Sephora by OPI, splatter, stamping, Wet n Wild, Zoya

Check the sidebar for more information.

I tried a couple of ideas for today’s manicure. My first was ghosts, but I was not really feeling freehand work. For my second I finally tried Frankenstein patchwork but it looked too crowded. After that bought of freehand, I felt pretty discouraged so I sat down and flipped through my stamping plates. I came across a nocturnal creature and I was suddenly inspired…Vampire Bats! And to top it off, I combined two RA-friendly techniques: splatter and saran-wrap!

So here’s a fun story…sort of…When I worked the morning shift at the animal hospital one of my duties was to walk the dogs in the outside yard. These walks took place at 5 a.m. so I stood outside with the “barkers” to make sure they didn’t bark. One morning while I stood next to this patch of decorative bamboo in the yard, I heard a rustling in the leaves. I thought it was a person or animal but it was coming from the top. I freaked out thinking whatever it was might jump on me, grabbed the dog and ran inside. Later, I was telling this story to one of the receptionists and she told me bats were pretty common in our neck of the woods. She also told me she never walked her dog, at night, in forests or patches of trees and never ever let her dog out by itself. Bats carry rabies!

I love watching bats in captivity but out in the wild!…Nope! Anyways…

I hope you like it!

Halloween Nail Art Challenge - Villians | The Rite of AgingI started with two coats of Zoya Goldie as my base.

I “saran wrapped” with Sephora by OPI 212-Sephora and butter London Scuppered. I sealed the base with a generous coat of Seche Vite.

I “splatter painted” with Wet n Wild I Red Good Book.

I stamped with Bundle Monster plate BM-314 and Konad Special Polish Black.
