I am not the biggest fan of textured polishes, I own a couple but I got them as gifts with purchase. I’ve used them a couple of times but was not feeling particularly creative…And then I realized, textured polish is not the only way I can achieve texture! Why not go with one of my favorite techniques??

Ever since I started blogging I wanted to do a bumblebee manicure. When I got my Bundle Monster plates it was the first stamp I tried! However, due to my inexperience I never managed to transfer the design correctly to the stamper so I gave up. What better time to re-try than a textured manicure prompt for the Link-up?

NAIL October - Textured | The Rite of Aging

I started with Color Club Almost Famous! as my base.

I detailed with Wet n Wild Black Creme and stamped with Konad Special Polish in Black with a Bundle Monster plate (sorry, I mixed up the plates and can’t find the one I used!).

Bundle Monster October challenge

Bundle Monster is holding another 30-day challenge this October in honor of Halloween! I saw the posts about it yesterday so I am jumping in late. I don’t think I will partake every day because I do not have enough stamps for the themes but I am going to try.

Today’s theme is monsters! I almost used my favorite demon stamps but there is a “demon” prompt later this month which I’m saving them for. When I went through the other plates I noticed this little flying creature. I am not sure if it is a monster but it has in angry looking eyes so I’m going to call it a monster!

BM Halloween Challenge - Monsters | The Rite of Aging

I was feeling icy, light blues but they did not scream “Halloween” so I went with red and gold.

I used 2 coats of Sephora by OPI Metro Chic as my base.

I “saran-wrapped” with Wet n Wild I Red a Good Book and Zoya Goldie before stamping with Bundle Monster plate BM-310 and Konad Special Polish Black.

I realized something today. I have never done an American patriotic manicure! So, embracing a first time for everything, I created a USA manicure…What a perfect time to use the “sugar spun” technique!

I stamped with Bundle Monster plate BM-307 and Urban Outfitters Blue Velvet.

I “sugar spun” with Wet n Wild I Red a Good Book.

I decided to for-go yesterday’s half moons prompt. I do not like half moons and I do not like how they look. They’re just not my thing and I think that’s okay!

However, I do love galaxy nail art! It is surprisingly RA-friendly. It is a bunch of sponging and layers and it does not have to be perfect.

I’ve tried cool-colored galaxies, I’ve tried multi-colored galaxies so today I tried warm-colored galaxies. I was so pleased I could use my new Pahlish and Mundo de Unas polishes!

Well, it is that time of year again: the 31-Day Challenge! I went quiet last week, partially because of the flare but also in preparation for this month. I want to complete the challenge this year! I completed it last year and want to continue the streak!

As the month progresses, I will update the 31-Day Challenge tab above. I think it’s going to be really cool to see how different my nail art looks now and from a year ago. I started nail-art blogging in August 2013 so I was still new to the community. It will be interesting to see how I’ve grown in the past year!

Anyways, I decided to start the month out nice and simple. As you all know, I love my messy water marbles so why not start with that?

 

I am exploring RA-friendly nail art. It is going to take me time to adjust to the Orencia’s absence (still haven’t gotten my money back!) so I may struggle with intricate nail arts. If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you may have already seen my hashtag #rafriendlynailart? While nail art by nature is not RA-friendly I want to find alternatives to established techniques that are easier on the fingers. I hope you enjoy and follow my new-ish? journey!

I think messy marbles are RA-friendly. I do not mess with the design’s perfection in the water and I dunk two or three of my fingers because the nails do not have to be the same and I marble one color at a time so the design is easier to manipulate.

I really like how this came out. I did double layers of red polish and they mostly came out in the same directions! This reminds me of the reject peppermint candies restaurants never put in the concierge bowl! Hahaha, I hope you like it!

I started with 2 coats of Milani Color Statement Spotlight White as my base. Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of the formula. Sure, I did not expect much to begin with but I much prefer Julie G’s white polish. I reserve this Milani polish for the base of marbles or other detailing where the base does not need to “well-done”.

I marbled with Orly Bonder and Wet n Wild I Red A Good Book.

Tri-Polish Tuesday Challenge – August #4: Blue, Yellow, Red

This month passed at a snail-pace. I’ve always had a problem with August but time really slowed down. I am thrilled there is only one week left.

Here is my manicure for this week’s TPC. I had to re-do all my nails except for the accent because they became cluttered. I started with a dotticure and added clouds. It was too much and looked horrendous. I could not even look at the pictures. I went back and just did clouds and it came out way better.

I stamped with Milani Black Swift and MoYou London plate 06 (from the Mother Nature collection). On the stamper, I layered Wet n Wild I Red a Good Book, Anise Make Waves and a generous coat of Seche Vite to seal the design. After it dried, I applied it to the nail and added clouds with Julie G White Orchid.

I seal everything with Seche Vite.

GOT Challenge: Stripes

My first thought went to striping tape and I cried. Striping tape is a RA flare’s worst nightmare: shaky hands, small tweezers, straight lines. It all makes me want to crawl under a rock and stop painting my nails. Ok, that is a GROSS exaggeration but you get what I mean!

My second thought went to Winnie the Pooh and I gasped I had never attempted these characters. How is that possible? The Golden Oldies’ prompt this week is stripes so I immediately jumped to Tigger. I’ve seen some gorgeous Tigger manicures on Instagram and had the cartoon on my mind.

This was so much fun and it was only until after I finished I realized ALL the polishes I used were over a year old. I only meant for the base and stripes to fall under that category! While that is pretty cool, it probably means I do not buy enough nail polish!

Today’s manicure may have used old polishes but it featured a new technique: freehand decals! I grabbed a sandwich bag and set to work. Unfortunately, my decal smudged a little but I don’t mind. It kind of had a “artist’s sketch” vibe to it. This was definitely not a bad first attempt!

Now that I rambled on…
