NAIL May Theme Three: Emerald

I bought a light box! I am playing around with pictures and brightness and things so please let me know if you like the picture quality!! Though, I think this picture came out a little more yellow than I would like.

When I saw the NAIL prompt for this week I instantly thought of the Deborah Lippmann “Wicked” set I purchased from Sephora. What better way to express Emerald than with references to the Wizard of Oz’s Emerald City?

I did a simple gradient by a different technique. I usually gradient with a sponge eyeshadow brush but it looks a little choppy so I am practicing the makeup sponge gradient style.

I think it came out pretty well. I hope you like it!

ImageI used three coats of American Apparel Parakeet as my base.

I used Deborah Lippman Defying Gravity in the middle and One Short Day on the tips.

I really stretched the theme today but I was feeling bright polishes so I went with an ever popular tie-dye. At first, I only stamped my ring finger and do I wish I stopped there. The stamping polish was very water-y but it looked ok on the stamper…until I transferred it.

It would be fine if all my nails were the same…but alas, what can I do? This manicure took me a long time and I was not in the head space to start over.

I hope you like it anyways!

ImageI used 1 coat of butter London Cotton Buds as my base.

I tie-dye swirled with American Apparel Neon Red, Neon Yellow and Color Club Wham! Pow!, Pucci-licious, Mrs. Robinson.

I stamped with Konad Special Polish in White and Bundle Monster plate BM-320.

I wanted to do something similar to my molecular nail art from last week but this hand tremor keeps getting in the way.

I still wanted to stamp so I went with a smaller scale image. Though, I still got a few smudges so my apologies!!

This nail art reminds me of Christmas. The flowers look like poinsettias and the colors are very holiday-inspired! I definitely was not going for that but the colors worked nicely together.

ImageI used 1 coat of butter London Tea with the Queen and 1 coat of butter London Hen Party as my base. Am I loving this combination! Separately I cannot stand the colors against my skin tone but together it is the perfect neutral mannequin hands color!

I stamped with Konad Special Polish Red and Violet Pearl? and MoYou London plate 09 (Suki Collection).

I dotted with Zoya Giovanna.

The best part of graduation? The parties that come afterwards!

Unfortunately, my hand tremor came back so precise detail work went right out the window. I saw quite a few variations on the “waterfall” manicure and I wanted to give it a try. So, instead of the waterfall I went with a streamer-fall?

Hope you enjoy!

ImageI used 1 coat of Color Club Wham! Pow! and 3 coats of Sinful Colors All About You as my base.

The polishes I detailed with:

  • Color Club  Almost Famous, Mrs. Robinson
  • Essie No Place Like Chrome
  • Milani Peacock

Tools I used:

  • Two dotting tools
  • Small detailing brush

Jessica from Be Happy and Buy Polish is hosting another nail art challenge! I am really excited to take part in it because the prompts are really fun!

I decided to pass on the Mother’s Day prompt yesterday but I was all over today’s! What says “party” more than colorful confetti? Not sure but if you add that together with an animal you get a party animal!

Not totally sure why I decided on a rubber duck, it just spoke party animal to me! I am beyond thrilled with how this came out. It is colorful, happy and cute! I mean…there is noting cuter than a rubber ducky.

I hope you enjoy!!

ImageI used 2 coats of butter London Tea with the Queen and 1 coat of butter London Hen Party as my base.

The polishes I used for the dotticure:

  • American Apparel Neon Red, Neon Yellow and Parakeet
  • Color Club Poptastic
  • Cult Nails Deal with It
  • Milani Peacock

I stamped with Konad Special Polish in Antique Gold? and MoYou London plate 02 (Time Traveler Collection – Back to the 80’s). The design did not come out but I wanted there to be sparkle. I think next time I will just use my INM top coat because the gold barely shows up.

I stamped with Konad Special Polish in Black and MoYou London plate 04 (Princess Collection). I kind of went crazy with the duck images but I think it came out really cute!

Galaxies are one of my favorite nail arts! They are abstract and I get to mess around with sponging, dotting and colors until I am happy! You can imagine my excitement over this week’s Theme Buffet prompt! (Facebook group linked here.)

I hope you enjoy my blue-ish, purple-y, shimmer galaxy!

Image

I used 2 coats of Milani Black Swift, 1 coat of butter London The Black Knight, and 2 generous coats of Milani Sprinkles as my base.

Polishes used for detailing:

  • Julie G White Orchid
  • Urban Outfitters Blue Velvet
  • Color Club Pucci-licious
  • Zoya Crystal
  • Pretty Jelly Dream Cloud
  • Sally Hansen Slick Black

Tools used:

  • Dotting tools (two sizes)
  • Sponge-tip applicators
  • Small artist brush

I topped off with Seche Vite to protect the detailing before finishing with a generous coat of INM Northern Lights.

The Crumpet’s SIMPLES Challenge: Week One – The Non-Pattern Accent Nail

17 Saturday May 2014

Debbie from The Crumpet is hosting another Nail Art challenge. But instead of a challenge it is a learning game! Every week she will post the prompt and we try our best at each one! As we progress through the challenge, we will see others’ interpretations on the prompt, share tips and tricks, and sort through difficulties.

When I read about the SIMPLES challenge (her blog post linked here) I knew I would take part! I am new to the nail art universe and I am always down to learn new tricks and support other nail polish enthusiasts!

The Facebook group is linked here. The set up is a little different for this group. There are no Inlinkz and the group is solely for SIMPLES manicures.

I hope you enjoy mine! I decided to pull out a rather unloved neon orange polish from the depths of my stash. It saw the light for a few minutes then returned to the back of the shelf.

ImageI used 2 coats Color Club Wham! Pow! as my base. I keep this in my collection because I have no other neon oranges but I do not like it. The formula is tacky, not thick or gloopy, just, tacky. So, it is not ideal for water marbling or nail art. Poor unloved nail polish. I’d love any recommendations on good neon orange polishes so I can put this poor Color Club out of its misery and retire it!

I layered Serum No. 5 Fallen on my pinky until I liked the result.

Apologies on the slightly blurry picture. Neons seem to be the mortal enemies of my camera!!
