Icy Blue Stripes | Nail Art & Review

Some products provided for review. All opinions are my own.

Some of you may remember that a few months ago I was all blue-d out. Yes, you read that right: blue-d out. All the looks I made in August were blue except for one and when I went into the 31-Day Challenge in September I was wholly uninspired by the color.

I filtered out it as much as possible to give myself a break and I finally decided to use it again. It was surprisingly easy to stay away from my favorite color. It is not only my go to in clothes and decorations but it is the hue I wear most often on my nails.

I also lay striping to the wayside but mostly because I do not like the technique. When I chose products to review from the Born Pretty Store I was immediately drawn to a striping tape holder. Maybe an actual holder, fashioned after a Scotch Tape dispenser might make the whole process easier!

The striping tape comes out easily but it does not fit snugly into the canister so it constantly moves around inside. This affects the tape placed on the nail and continuously pulls it up. I have to use scissors to cut the tape as the mouth does not have ridges.

All this being said, the tape container keeps the striping tape from rolling back into itself and saves me the hassle of finding the end. I prefer this holder over a basic Scotch Tape one because it is closed, lightweight, and durable.

I expected more from this basic holder but looking at the website it is only advertised as a basic tape holder and that is what it is. As long as the end doesn’t stick back onto the roll I am happy!

Autumn Waterfall | Nail Art & Video Tutorial

I have not done a whole lot of fall look this year so I pulled out my most autumnal polishes and set to work. I decided on the waterfall technique (one of my favorites) and since it is RA-friendly I made a video tutorial!

I hope you like it!

Starlight Saran-Wrap | Nail Art & Video Tutorial

Well, I have something exciting to show you today: my first ever nail art video!

I received a few Starlight collection polishes from Preen.Me and OPI as part of the PreenMeVIP program and they asked that everyone involved submit a couple of videos. I struggled for a good while with this. I really wanted to start making videos but I was still using my phone for photos and I was not too keen to use a borrowed dinosaur of a camera.

I bit the bullet and tried the regular point and shoot but since it did not want to cooperate I fell back on my phone. I lost a lot of quality through uploading and editing but I am really pleased with my first ever video!

I didn’t really expect this to go up on the web so I went with a nice, easy and simple saran-wrap look. After playing around with editing and filming I took the plunge and uploaded to YouTube!

I hope with practice and time my videos are going to get better! I will definitely have a sugar-spun tutorial up soon!

Purple Dotticure | Nail Art

Yesterday, I was at a complete loss for the ClaireStelle8 challenge on Instagram. “Purple Nails” opened the floor to absolutely anything and I had multiple ideas floating around in my head. I tried a couple out and they didn’t turn out the way I wanted; at least, not what I wanted for “purple nails”.

Eventually, I leaned back on an old favorite: a dotticure. The bright lights gleamed around my nails. Finally, after literally staring at my nails for a few hours I had a design I was proud of.

I hope you like it!

Freehand Autumn Leaves | Nail Art

I’ve been wanting to do a freehand leaves for a while but couldn’t get the spacing quite right. I have such short nails (I do love them, though) I sometimes find it difficult to not crowd a hand-painted design.

I hope you like my abstract leaves!

I am not going to even apologize for starting my holiday nail art early. I just cannot help myself especially when it comes to snowflakes because yesterday morning I woke up and there was ice on my car! Not frost. Ice. It is now officially okay to do winter looks! Yay!

I decided to go with a bright gradient and silver stamping for my first snowflake look this year. I hope you like it!

Christmas Decals | Nail Art

Items provided for review.

I really wanted to wait to use these decals until at least mid November but I just couldn’t help myself. I received this specific set for review from Born Pretty Store but I bought like six other ones as well that are waiting patiently in my water decal bag.

I can easily see myself doing holiday nail art every day in December and definitely trying really hard not to during November. As the holiday season is only four weeks or so, please excuse me as this is the only time of year I can do the fun nail art!

Born Pretty does some seriously cute holiday decals which I purchase every year. I usually have some left over but once the decals are open they only last a few months before drying out and disintegrating in water. That’s okay though, the BPS brand decals are very cheap and very worth the money. I always stock up on the cute reindeers and equally adorable snowmen!

Let’s just blow past my red and swollen fingers. I “accidentally” went climbing and ended up with a nasty flare this past week. ::Sigh:: I am seriously considering no longer climbing but after 12+ years of it, it’s hard to quit.
