Oh Mon Dieu 2 Challenge – Day 8: Shimmer

Right after I go on and on about rainbow shimmer in holographic polishes, I realize the prompt for today’s manicure IS shimmer!  “Knackered” is a favorite in my collection but I do not use it nearly enough. It always looks gorgeous over dark nail polish!

I hope you like this manicure. I tried a freehand design and my hand shook like mad. I hope this gets better with practice!

DSCF0155_fotorI used 2 coats of Zoya Suvi and 1 coat of butter London Knackered as my base.

I detailed with butter London Cotton Buds and China Glaze In the Limelight. I placed silver rhinestones in the middle of each star.

Oh Mon Dieu 2 Challenge – Day 7: Holographic

In Star Trek, holograms are “projected three-dimensional images made of light and force fields”. (Thank you Sarah!)

Are holograms possible in the color world? They would translate into prismatic arrays of colors. Rainbow shimmer! I only own a couple of holographic polishes from Pretty Jelly (Liquid Jelly Liz’s nail polish line) and I love them! The shimmer is prominent and gorgeous!

I took inspiration from Luciana’s SIMPLES mixed sizes & colors dotticure. The dots are impeccable and the gradient is gorgeous! I was blown away! Click the picture to check out the Facebook post/group!

I matte all the nails but lost the shimmer in the process. Which do you like better? I think I lean towards the matte finish. I can see the gradient dotticure a little better.

I detailed with Urban Outfitters Blue VelvetPop Beauty Pacific Hoot and Milani Peacock.

Oh Mon Dieu 2 Challenge – Day 6: Duochrome

I only own 1 duochrome polish. Seriously! What kind of nail art blogger am I?

I don’t t really care for them. Don’t get me wrong, they are pretty and look great on other people. On me, though, they show a very unflatter angle so I generally steer clear of them.

The only duochrome I own is Chanel’s Peridot. I bought it soon after it was released because IT WAS SO FREAKING PRETTY! Then I wore it. It looked awful on me. I rarely wear it but keep it on display.

Funny thing is I am really liking it right now. Maybe it looks better on tan skin? Maybe I changed my mind? That is the interesting thing about duochromes, the same polish always sparks different opinions on any given day.

I hope you like it!

DSCF0095_fotorI used 3 coats of Chanel Peridot as my base.

I sugar-spun with Zoya Yara.

Oh Mon Dieu 2 Challenge – Day 5: Dark/SIMPLES Challenge – Week 6: Different Sized Dots

When I think “dark” polish, I think “vampy” and go straight to my highly-treasured Nfu-Oh Nfu 51 flakies polish. I do not use this polish nearly enough but maybe that is a good thing since it was discontinued from the Nfu Oh website. I snagged a bottle and still consider it one of my best nail polish purchases ever.

Ever.

The colors can look completely different based on lighting. I posted two pictures from today’s manicure, on Instagram, and they both look totally different. You have to love flakies!

I hope you like my creation today…The first picture is for the SIMPLEs challenge (different size dots) and the second is for the OMD2 challenge. When I think of flakies polishes I also think fairy tales and fantasy so I was thrilled to see a unicorn stamp in my collection.

OMD2 Challenge - Day 5: Dark

OMD2 challenge

I used 2 coats of Sephora by OPI Domestic Goddess and 2 coats of Nfu-Oh Nfu 51 as my base.

I stamped and detailed with butter London Cotton Buds and Mo You London plate 04 (Princess collection).

Oh Mon Dieu Challenge – Day 4: Bright

How am I already behind? Well, hopefully I will catch up today and knock out a few manicures.

I set out with no clear direction for the “bright” prompt. I considered a gradient with metal leaf accents, a picasso-swirl toothpick gradient or a sugar-spun gradient.  In the end I decided on a one color, metal leaf accent. I really wanted to use the glitters!

DSCF0052_fotorI used 1 coat of Sephora by OPI Cab Fare over 2 coats of Color Club Almost Famous as my base.

I used a gradient of gold, light green, and teal glitter pieces over the cuticle part of my nails.

Oh Mon Dieu Challenge – Day 3: Lavender

The pain has been replaced by another bout of sinusitis which is complete with blood accumulation! Blood has been dripping out of my nose all day. My head kept pounding so I literally slept…all day. Seriously, I think I was awake for no more than three hours today. This happens quite often and the blood sorts itself out within a couple of days. I just wish I had not lost my steamer in the move!

When I feel better I will get back to my normal schedule but for now I cannot really keep up!

Today’s prompt for the OMD2 challenge is Lavender. I love lavender. It is not only pretty but smells and does wonderful things.

Today also marks the first day trying striping tape. Yes! You read that correctly! I purchased real striping tape and I kind of love it.

I hope you like today’s manicure!

OMD2 Day 3: Lavender

I started with 3 coats of Formula X by Sephora Thrilling. I got a sample as part of a Sephora purchase. So far, I like the colors and formulas but the sample size cap and brush are so small it is difficult to get a clean coat. It applied unevenly and dried in clumps. I do not think this was so much the formula as the brush.

I detailed with bubble wrap and Milani Vivid Violet, Black Cherry and striping tape. I re-use bubble wrap and some Pop Beauty joined the party!

Yesterday marked a new month in the TPC! I am excited about this month as I especially love the color combination!

For this week’s manicure I decided on the “Nimbus” technique. I remember seeing a similar design…somewhere…I think it might have been a phone’s wallpaper but if it is someone’s nail art idea please let me know so I can credit them appropriately!

I really like the Nimbus technique but I can only get one, maybe two dots per side of the Q-tip before it loses its shape. Is there a way around that? Otherwise, it is a great abstract technique suitable for RA-shaky hands!

DSCF0022_fotorI used 3 coats of Julie G White Orchid and Seche Vite as my base.

I detailed with q-tips, pure acetone, Color Club Twiggie, Poptastic, and Milani Vivid Violet.
