#31DC2015 – Rainbow Splatter Paint Nail Art

I finally did it. I used the traditional rainbow color scheme on my nails! I think this is the first time in, well, ever I’ve done this! And I am going to be perfectly honest with you…I don’t like it…

This was the day of the month I least looked forward to. I love colors, neons, clashes etc. but when it comes to the ROYGBIV array I cannot get on board. I watched Robin Moses’ splatter paint technique (linked here) and immediately gave it a try. I could not think of anything else (except maybe dashes) for this prompt.

What do you think? I personally don’t like it but that’s my personal color preference. I think I should have gone with one or two colors – in different shades. I almost did not even want to post this but…

I am so proud of myself! I killed THREE birds with one stone. I recently joined the 30 Days of Color group on Facebook and want to take part in the September 30 Days of Color challenge. Of course, I will not be able to do all the prompts but I hope to dip my toes, so to speak!

Not only that, I combined the #clairestelle8sept flowers and #31DC2015 metallic challenges on Instagram! I am on a roll today!

I hope you like both the swatch and nail art photos…I took them inside because I could not pick up the gold shimmer in the sunlight!

#31DC2015 – Black and White Nails

(The first photo is my first attempt, the second is my actual black and white nail art for the 31 Day Challenge).

 

For today’s black and white prompt I attempted two different designs. At first, I wanted to incorporate the #31DC2015 and #clairestelle8sept challenges into one look. I recently received a set of beach stickers from Born Pretty Store which I thought  would be perfect!

Unfortunately, these stickers did not perform well. They were easy enough to use. I peeled off the stickers with tweezers and applied them to my nail. However, I had difficulty laying the stickers flat and even after top coat application I could see the edges and any air bubbles trapped underneath. I would recommend using these with light, already top-coated base colors. Beware, if the base is still tacky and you re-position the sticker, it will bring the polish up with it…These remind me of the cell phone screen protectors!! They are extremely easy to use but I would prefer to stick with the BPS brand water decals.

The above look did not turn out at all the way I wanted so I stripped the white nails and re-did them.

#31DC2015 – Blue Waterfall Nail Art

We are only five days in and I already hit nail artist block?? I tried five different designs and none of them looked right! I racked my brains, I skimmed through old photos and I met with absolutely no inspiration.

I realized this morning most of the looks I did in August were all blue! No wonder! I am burnt out. Hopefully if I lay off the color I will recharge my blue batteries.

I did not necessarily want to do this design but I couldn’t do anything else. I pulled out some old polishes I had not used in a while. I forgot how much I love the Nails Inc. glitter. The colors shouldn’t work together but they do somehow!

Today I went with some simple stamping. I just re-did my 31-Day Challenge tab and realized today’s look is nearly identical to last year’s: silver stamping over a dark green. However, this year, I used a different base and a different stamping plate!

#31DC2015 – Black and Orange Gradient

The weather has been so sunny recently (albeit a bit humid) so I switched my photos and opted for natural light. However, this means I have to finish my nail art by about 6pm and the time will slowly inch earlier and earlier as the month progresses. I may return to my indoor lighting or take photos the next morning before work. Unfortunately, I may have some wear and tear on the tips. Ah well, I’ll cross that bridge when I get there!

I cannot wait until I purchase my new camera! I have my eyes on the Canon Rebel t3i. I tried a friend’s and it was amazing. I instantly fell in love and crossed the Sony RX100 III off my list (okay, that’s a lie, it is still on my list as a basic not so basic point and shoot).

 

For today’s orange prompt I did a gradient. I love gradients but I especially love orange ones. Interestingly, as you may remember, I am not a fan of Halloween and never quite understood the orange and black color scheme. Regardless, I LOVE the combination on my nails..go figure!

I spiced things up with a little shimmer in between and I have to say I dig the final result. Do I seem more bubbly to you? I’m in a fantastic mood. I am back on the “good” meds. I exercise every day, nap less and am in better spirits. Also. I hate August. August is gone. YES.

And now I bring myself back from that tangent…

31DC2015 – Red

It is officially the start of the September 31-Day monthly challenge! I really hope I can keep up this year. I completed the challenge during my first year of blogging and during a time when my RA was at its worst…If I could get through the daily prompts then I can certainly manage them now…Right? Only time will tell!

 

For today’s prompt I decided to ease my way into the month with a simple glitter gradient. I spent the last few days re-arranging, de-cluttering and making sure my nail polish swatches were up to date. In the process I re-discovered a few old favorites! I blame it on the small bottles. When a company manufactures a travel/trial size of their bigger products I never hesitate purchasing the smaller version. It is especially difficult for me to get through polishes so the mini bottles are my best bet!

In actuality, this entire look features forgotten polishes: the glitter is from my favorite indie brand and the base is an old Milani…I’ve probably mentioned this multiple times  but I do not want to use any of my old Milani polishes! I am less than impressed with the new formulation and I never want to run out of the old ones I have left. Is that weird? Do you do that too? Let me know in the comments! 

I hope you like my simple nail art today. I have an entire month to build on my techniques and as it is, I probably will focus on RA-friendly looks anyways!
