When I think “dark” polish, I think “vampy” and go straight to my highly-treasured Nfu-Oh Nfu 51 flakies polish. I do not use this polish nearly enough but maybe that is a good thing since it was discontinued from the Nfu Oh website. I snagged a bottle and still consider it one of my best nail polish purchases ever.

Ever.

The colors can look completely different based on lighting. I posted two pictures from today’s manicure, on Instagram, and they both look totally different. You have to love flakies!

I hope you like my creation today…The first picture is for the SIMPLEs challenge (different size dots) and the second is for the OMD2 challenge. When I think of flakies polishes I also think fairy tales and fantasy so I was thrilled to see a unicorn stamp in my collection.

Weeee! Another monthly challenge! I really love these because I am never at a loss for nail art ideas!

The Oh Mon Dieu challenge is hosted by Jacqui over at Craftynail, Brijit from Brijit’s Digits, Jemma from Eeeek! Nail Polish! and Lindsay from Nail That Accent!. Every day features a different prompt with free range on nail art. With each manicure you also receive an entry towards some awesome prizes!!

I hope you like my mint-colored manicure today! (I also have a request: could you let me know how the picture quality/color is? I am having a huge problem with my eyes and the color shifts right in front of them – not great for editing photos!) This particular photo does not seem right..

I decided to stamp some pills today, I’ve had to increase my prednisone dose because of my spine which means more pills!

ImageI used 3 coats of Color Club Twiggie as my base.

I stamped with MoYou London plate 03 (from the Scholar collection) and Konad Special Polish in Black.

I detailed with Deborah Lippmann Mermaid’s Dream and Essie Naughty Nautical.

I used a generous coat of Seche Vite top coat and experienced some streaking. I am a little annoyed at this since I took such special care in stamping!

Hi, my name is Monica and I have RA.

Check out the other awesome mint manis!

FingerFood’s Themed Weeks: Cartoon Nails

This manicure serves THREE purposes!! I am absolutely thrilled I managed this. I am submitting it under the weekly theme buffet but it also serves as the second SIMPLES saran wrap manicure.

These nails also serve as a tribute to Casey Kasem, who passed away yesterday at the age of 82. If you have followed my blog for a while you will know I am a huge Scooby Doo fan. It was and will always remain my favorite cartoon. I own the entire original series on DVD and LOVE it.

Casey Kasem voiced Shaggy for over two decades. Not only that, he was a humanitarian who supported many different charities. The world has lost a truly remarkable person.

During the Nail-Art-A-Go-Go challenge in February, hosted by Missy at Gnarly Gnails, one of the prompts was animation (my design linked here). It was my first attempt at the cartoon nails technique and it came out less than to be desired. I wanted to re-visit it for this week’s Theme Buffet. While my nails are just as short as the last time, I think the addition of detailing makes the look less “stumpy”. I still need to practice getting even cartoon lines but I did not want to mess too much with it to the point I would have to re-do the entire nail!

I hope you like it!

World Cup Nails 2014 – Ecuador

The lovely Emily from Nailsxo invited me to take part in her World Cup Nails 2014 challenge. Each participant was given a country playing in the World Cup and asked to create nails based on it.

I got Ecuador! I am not too familiar with Ecuador except it is next to Peru, which so happens to be half of where I am from!

I was a little nervous for this challenge. I butcher flag manicures and I am not the biggest fan of futbol/soccer. I know, I know, I make the worst Peruvian-Indian EVER given the sport is so huge in both countries!

I took to the internet and upon further research I learned the Galapagos Islands are part of Ecuador! I had no idea! Being a Zoology major, I have studied quite a bit about the Galapagos so I decided to base my manicure on that very large part of the culture.

Did you know? Ecuador is considered the most biodiverse nation per kilometer!

I included a couple of photos because I L-O-V-E how wonderful the base of these came out!

When I saw this week’s prompt (Facebook group linked here) I immediately thought of my MoYou London Sailor stamping plate! I wanted something simple so with no clear vision in mind, I set out with my blue polishes.

I am not really feeling this manicure. The stamping came out great and I love how the base looks like water hit by sun rays but I am not feeling the color. It is a bright blue but since I am in that awkward pre-summer tan phase, it does not seem to work well.

I hope you like it!

I sponged with Zoya Crystal and Sinful Colors Nail Junkie.

I stamped with Essie No Place Like Chrome and MoYou London plate 08 (Sailor Collection).

I wanted to do something similar to my molecular nail art from last week but this hand tremor keeps getting in the way.

I still wanted to stamp so I went with a smaller scale image. Though, I still got a few smudges so my apologies!!

This nail art reminds me of Christmas. The flowers look like poinsettias and the colors are very holiday-inspired! I definitely was not going for that but the colors worked nicely together.

ImageI used 1 coat of butter London Tea with the Queen and 1 coat of butter London Hen Party as my base. Am I loving this combination! Separately I cannot stand the colors against my skin tone but together it is the perfect neutral mannequin hands color!

I stamped with Konad Special Polish Red and Violet Pearl? and MoYou London plate 09 (Suki Collection).

I dotted with Zoya Giovanna.

Celebrate the Occasion Nail Art Challenge Day 2: Party On!

Jessica from Be Happy and Buy Polish is hosting another nail art challenge! I am really excited to take part in it because the prompts are really fun!

I decided to pass on the Mother’s Day prompt yesterday but I was all over today’s! What says “party” more than colorful confetti? Not sure but if you add that together with an animal you get a party animal!

Not totally sure why I decided on a rubber duck, it just spoke party animal to me! I am beyond thrilled with how this came out. It is colorful, happy and cute! I mean…there is noting cuter than a rubber ducky.

I hope you enjoy!!

ImageI used 2 coats of butter London Tea with the Queen and 1 coat of butter London Hen Party as my base.

The polishes I used for the dotticure:

  • American Apparel Neon Red, Neon Yellow and Parakeet
  • Color Club Poptastic
  • Cult Nails Deal with It
  • Milani Peacock

I stamped with Konad Special Polish in Antique Gold? and MoYou London plate 02 (Time Traveler Collection – Back to the 80’s). The design did not come out but I wanted there to be sparkle. I think next time I will just use my INM top coat because the gold barely shows up.

I stamped with Konad Special Polish in Black and MoYou London plate 04 (Princess Collection). I kind of went crazy with the duck images but I think it came out really cute!

Hi, my name is Monica and I have RA.

Don’t forget to check out the other Party manicures!
