I had a couple of ideas for this prompt but none of them panned out properly. I am not too incredibly pleased with this manicure just because it was not my first choice. That being said, I really like the base!

Challenge Your Nail Art - Christmas Ornaments | The Rite of AgingI started with 3 coats of Zoya Suvi for good measure. I probably could have gotten away with 2 coats!

I achieved the base color by water-marbling without the marble Essie No Place like Chrome and layering Serum No. 5 Happy Special Day! on top. I saw this technique done on a very pretty manicure on Instagram but now I cannot remember  whose it was!! (EDIT: Thank you, PINTEREST! I pinned the exact manicure onto one of my boards. I used Born Pretty Store Christmas decals on my index and ring fingers.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do for today’s CYNA prompt! Better yet, I knew which colors I wanted to use! I absolutely love using this color palette but it is very winter-esque so I rarely wear it outside of the holidays! Initially, I only wanted to stamp my ring finger because I wanted the glitter topper to stand on it’s own but I could not tell the image was a Christmas tree. In the end, I really liked the stamps on all my nails.

I used 2 coats of Zoya Giovanna + 1 generous coat of Serum No. 5 Forest Lights and 2 coats of Essie No Place Like Chrome as my base.

I alternated the colors for the stamping with Bundle Monster plate BM 321.

I knew exactly which indie polish I wanted to use when I saw this week’s prompt. Serum No. 5’s Happy Special Day! is one of my favorite polishes! Sadly, I rarely use it just because I do not generally reach for glitter toppers.

I loved my sprinkled sugar-spun manicure from Bundle Monster’s birthday challenge, linked (here) and I wanted to re-create it. However, every time I sat down to make this manicure I started too late in the evening and could not finish! I finally finished it tonight, though, and was so excited to share it! I am really pleased I managed a good variety of the pieces found in this polish.

NAIL (October) - Favorite Indie | The Rite of AgingI started with 3 coats of Color Club Wham! Pow! and Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Short Cir-cute as my bases.

I cling wrapped with Pahlish Le Bijou du Roi before sealing everything with Seche Vite.

I sugar-spun with Wet n Wild Black Creme. I love sugar-spinning with this polish. It dries so shiny!

I used a toothpick to add Serum No. 5 Happy Special Day!.

NAIL (October 2014) – Week One: Splatter

The first NAIL prompt for October is splatter-painting! Splatter is one of my favorite techniques. It is fun (who doesn’t like getting messy?), abstract, and RA-friendly!

In honor of October, I used Halloween colors. I really like the final effect but I do not like this orange. It is too yellow and dulls the white base underneath. It also stains the skin like mad. I should have used my trusty Wham! Pow! but I am running low so I used this Zoya polish instead. Oh well, I learned my lesson for next time.

NAIL October week one: splatterI started with 2 coats of the Julie G White Orchid and Serum No. 5 Happy Special Day as my base.

I splattered with Zoya Gwin and  Milani Black Swift.

I sealed the detailing with Seche Vite before adding a generous coat of INM Northern Lights. I noticed however long I wait the Milani polish always smears which is a bummer because I love this polish otherwise.

31DC2014 – September 16: Geometric

For this prompt, I wanted to mix strong geometric lines with abstract art. I really like how this came out and it was exactly what I wanted. I do not wear glitter toppers that often and I definitely need practice applying it! The tips of my nails and I seem to be on the outs right now!

DSCF0924_fotorI used 3 coats of American Apparel Parakeet. I can usually get away with 2 coats but because of the saran-wrap technique I wanted to make sure I had enough.

Next, I used cling-wrap, Zoya Yara and Giovanna. The saran-wrap technique is great #rafriendlynailart!

I stamped with Milani Black Swift and Bundle Monster plate BM-322.

I used a couple of coats of Serum No. 5 Forest Lights for my accent.

Depression Awareness – #fightforlightandlive

My submission for the hashtag #fightforlightandlive. The idea behind my manicure – fly free: free from depression, free from the weight it brings, free to be who you are without fear.

Here is my question for the world: Depression sometimes goes hand in hand with autoimmunes. Is it because it is hard to cope with a life-altering diagnosis? Is it because autoimmunes are inflammatory diseases, affecting all organs including the brain? 

I suffered from depression, on and off, long before I ever felt my first arthritic pains, but I wonder now if it has gotten worse because I still cannot wrap my head around my new disability or because inflammation runs rampant in my body.

 

Five minutes after I applied top coat I had to wrestle the Saachi for something and everything smudged. My left hand came out with the least damage so I photographed that hand.

 

DSCF0563_fotor-001I used 2 coats of Zoya Giovanna as my base. I used 1 coat of Deborah Lippman One Short Day (from the Wicked collection) on my thumb and ring finger. I used 1 coat of Serum No. 5 Forest Lights and 1 coat of Zoya Opal on my index, middle and pinky finger.

I stamped with American Apparel Parakeet and MoYou London plate 02 (from the Mother Nature collection).

During the Bundle Monster challenge, I played with sugar-spun and glitter. I thought it came out really well so I re-visited them for this prompt as well.

I hope you like it! I think it’s fun and bright. It reminds me of cake frosting!

I sugar-spun with Revlon Parfumerie Fresh Linen and added glitter with Serum No. 5 Happy Special Day and Deborah Lippman Happy Birthday!
