NAIL March Theme Four: Spring Flowers

Tags

, , ,

I decided not to take part in the second and third week of this month’s Linkup. I do not own any true aqua polishes and I was no longer feeling St. Patrick’s Day nails.

For this theme I decided to try one-stroke flowers. I am confused. I watched a handful of tutorials but each petal consists of more than one stroke. Why are they called one stroke? (Actual question! If someone can explain it to me I would greatly appreciate it).

Since I do not quite understand the concept I am not sure I got the technique down. However, I am really pleased with how this came out, especially the third and fourth finger.

Enjoy!

ImageI used 1 coat of butter London Tea with the Queen and 1 coat of butter London Hen Party as my base.

I hope you enjoy my last March TPC design! (Facebook group linked here).

ImageI used 1 coat of butter London Cotton Buds and 1 coat of Seche Vite as my base.

(Question: Has anyone else had a problem with Cotton Buds clumping in certain places under top coat?)

I used a toothpick and Sephora by OPI I Come in Peas (green), Ms. Can’t be Wrong (purple) and Go My Own Way (blue).

Flashback Friday: WHERE IS SHE??

Tags

,

Sunsilk was at the youngest age of all our adoptions. She came to us at 2 months old from the pound. I still remember the first time we saw her she had a cold and was sleepy so she seemed cute and lazy.

WRONG.

This kitten drove us CRAZY. She got into everything, got her claws into everything and got stuck in everything else.

Our worst fear was one day she would get stuck behind the washer or dryer. (Ridiculous I know, but Marmalade got stuck under the REFRIGERATOR once…)

…This makes it seem like we don’t keep tabs on our pets, but I swear we do!

Anyways, the first Christmas holidays we had Sunsilk we put up our tree as usual. We used a fake tree because of the pets, pine-infused water is toxic to cats and dogs.

One evening I was looking for Sunsilk. I checked in any possible place she might be and I could not find her! I started freaking out and yelling for my dad. We ran outside, checked the patio, came back inside, checked the closets, even opened all the drawers and cabinets JUST IN CASE. And yes, we did check the fridge.

We were traumatized. Sunsilk was a VERY SMALL cat. She was so tiny she fit in the toes of our shoes, which we did overturn JUST IN CASE. I checked under my trundle bed (one of her favorite rest spots was the open space when the bed was pulled out). In fact, once I was trying to push it in and could not figure out why it wasn’t closing properly…when I opened it to see if something had gotten caught…it was Sunsilk!

Anyways…

My father and I were at our wit’s end…what were we going to do?? When all of a sudden we heard the Christmas tree rustling.

The Christmas tree? An inanimate object moving? What?

We checked every wrung of the tree and saw our darling curled up on the branches.

Here is my submission for FingerFood’s Theme Buffet! (Facebook group linked here) I know this was super late but I was still in my green and sugar-spun kick and I wanted to do one more St. Patrick’s Day manicure.

ImageI used 2 coats Sephora by OPI It’s Totally Karma as my base.

I sugar-spun with Deborah Lippman’s Wicked Collection Defying Gravity and Sinful Colors All About You.

Februrary Favorites, Part Two (Very Word-Heavy!!)

I know it’s nearly the end of March and I have yet to post the second part of my February favorites! (Part One is linked here).

Kikkerland’s Owl Contact Lens Case

(prices vary on http://www.amazon.com – I think I got them for USD $3.99 each)

feb favs

I love owls. These contact cases are so cute, functional and make a boring routine more fun! The wells are larger and more shallow than traditional lens holders but I am not using any more contact solution than usual. The wells are well-labeled, as well. The only drawback is the caps are smooth so if my fingers are oily or wet I cannot open the lids.

I wish they came in more colors (they are only available in hot pink, neon green, and blue) but they are absolutely adorable.

Would I re-purchase? Yes!

Fekkai’s Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo

(USD $20.00 for 8 fl. oz)

This is not technically new. I have had this shampoo for over a year. Before you get too excited on how long this product lasted me let me tell you, I stopped using it six months ago. I bleached and colored my hair so I had to switch shampoos. I started using this again at the end of January when I decided to grow out my pixie.

My hair gives my medical condition away. It generally looks unhealthy, which is why I cut it short to begin with, so keeping it looking well is my main priority. I use heat protectants, hair oils, and dry shampoos regularly so my hair becomes dull very quickly. The shinier my hair looks, the healthier it looks. I also want to make sure my follicles and head-pores (is that a term?) stay clean and clear for optimal hair growth!

This shampoo is amazing at eliminating product build-up and restoring shine. Beware!: This shampoo will strip your hair of ALL its oil and moisture so use sparingly! I only use this once a week.

Whenever I use this shampoo I follow through with…

Would I re-purchase it? Yes.

It’s a 10’s Miracle Deep Conditioner [plus Keratin]

(USD $16.00/17.00 for 5 fl. oz)

This brand has a huge YouTube following and I just jumped on the bandwagon. I was extremely curious because reviews said it was great for keeping hair smooth and shiny.

This conditioner is very moisturizing. It has a smooth consistency that is not very thick. It coats my hair evenly and sticks well without sliding.

After I use Fekkai’s Clarifying shampoo my hair feels stringy, dry and tangled. I follow with the Miracle Deep Conditioner and this product restores hydration and makes my hair soft and manageable! I do not dread deep-cleansing my hair anymore! I always shampoo and condition first so the conditioner has time to sink into my hair while I finish the rest of my shower routine.

For me, personally, I think this deep conditioner is too much for “every day use”. If I use it with my “daily” shampoo my roots get oily more quickly. (I put every day use and daily in quotations since I only wash my hair once every three or four days)

Would I re-purchase it? Yes.

It’s a 10’s Miracle Leave-In [plus Keratin]

(between USD $13.00 and 19.00 for 4 fl. oz)

When I bought this product I assumed it was a cream serum. When I open the bottle, I panicked. I did not realize it was a spray bottle! I am not really a fan of spray products for hair. I find them difficult to coat the hair evenly so I tested the squirter on my hand first and I am glad I did! A cream serum shot straight out of the nozzle (like those stringy foam squirt cans you see at children’s birthday parties).

Unlike the deep conditioner in the same product series, the serum is a lot heavier than it seems. One pump is more than enough to coat my scalp. It dries slowly but it protects my hair from heat stylers.

My previous interactions with heat protectants included losing style and going frizzy after the first day. With Miracle Leave-In I have noticed neither of these problems! My hair looks less fried. It looks like I just started straightening not like I have been putting my hair through the ringer since I was 13!

Would I re-purchase? Yes, though, maybe not immediately. There are other products I would like to try.

Batiste’s Dry Shampoo

(USD $8.00 at CVS Pharmacies)

I am lazy. I rarely wash my hair. Day 3 includes nice oily roots that give me away. All I need from a dry shampoo is a fresh scent that does not linger, does not dye my roots grey, and sops up the oil. Easy, right?

I picked up the Batiste dry shampoo in the original Clean & Classic scent because there was a manufacturer’s coupon attached, I had heard of the brand recently, and I thought, heck..why not?

This dry shampoo is so great!

I do have a couple of issues with it, though. The scent is certainly “clean and classic” for a hairspray but it is SO strong. If you are sensitive to perfume you may want to pass on this product. However, the smell dissipates quickly and leaves a subtle fresh scent on my hair.

The biggest downside is this spray COATS my hair in product: white, opaque product. I have to work two different brushes, for quite a few minutes, before my hair returns to its normal color. I use a broad tooth comb to work the product into the ends and a boar bristle brush to remove residue.

All that aside, once the dry shampoo sets my hair feels fresh out of a wash and condition. This product actually extends my non-shampoo time by one more day! Previously, with other products, I had to wash my hair the same day.

Would I re-purchase? Yes, but I want to try the colored versions and other scents.

I LOVE HOW ELECTRIC THIS IS!

Can you tell how excited I am?

I love this. So. Much.

I hope you do too!

ImageI used 3 coats of Cult Nails Deal With It and 1 sheer coat of Milani Twinkle as my base.

I first dotted with Urban Outfitters Blue Velvet (blue) and Color Club Mrs. Robinson (purple) before sugar spinning with the opposite.

While the dots do not always show up I love how they sometimes peek through.

Second Dexa-Scan

Tags

, ,

If you are on corticoid steroids long-term, have hit menopause, or have osteoporosis chances are your doctor has recommended a yearly dexa-scan.

I had my first one two years ago. My prednisone dose varied over those two years so I never saw the need to get another one. With my most recent flare and spine difficulty my doctor ordered another one. My symptoms were consistent with a regular flare except for the acute spinal pain.

My Dexa came back more or less normal. No osteoporosis!! …yet.

While my bone density levels are still “normal” they have decreased in the last two years. I am no closer to lowering my prednisone dose (crossing my fingers for Spring!) so I have to start osteoporosis prevention.

I started Actonel at the end of December and hopefully will be on a generic alternative starting next month. (Troubles in insurance land – I will follow up with another blog post soon).

This is good news but it makes me laugh. Three years ago, I was that person who refused to take pain relievers or vitamin supplements. Now I am taking 15+ pills a day and because they are eroding every inch of me I have to add more.

Not only was I that person who wouldn’t take pain killers, I couldn’t even swallow them! I was incapable of swallowing a single candy-coated Advil pill. Incapable, as in, I kept gagging it up involuntarily. (TMI??)

Look how far I’ve come! 😛
